  1. It is a tough call for sure. But isn't the 'whole' idea in a pandemic that, if one just sits back and lets life go on as usual, w/75,000 people going to a football game or 125 folks cooped up in a restaurant or 200 inside a movie house etc etc etc... and then multiple that by the hundreds or thousands, that a virus like this is going to 'eat us all alive very rapidly', overwhelm all our hospitals and medical care capabilities and then what? My understanding from the folks who are vastly more informed about what could happen than any of us might or profess to be, is that we HAVE to get ahead of the curve... have to keep the unthinkable from happening. And yes, it is a HUGE problem for most of civilization to live like this for a while and for some folks to possibly lose what they have worked so hard to create. My heart goes out to each and every one of them. But what might their life look like if we did nothing? As far as Fauci and his credentials go.... I'm for SURE putting my money on his and his like brethren in a moment like this as opposed to these two guys in California no matter how well intentioned they might be!

  2. Here is a statistic to wrap your head around: 54,000 American deaths in two months from Covid 19. Total Americans dead in the 19 year Vietnam war was 58,000. The Covid deaths in the US have doubled in 10 days. About 2000 Americans dying daily now. So Wednesday the death count should pass the Vietnam war. And then we have a couple ER docs telling us that the flu is more dangerous? Comic relief.

  4. Different supply chain here in Mexico. Of course there the giant agri industries stomping around. But on the other hand, there is the Chapala municipal slaugterhouse, working an easy pace, butchering animals to specifications fit for human consumption. Half a block way is the carneceria, where you can purchase belly pork, smoke and cure your own bacon (hmm maple sugar and fruitwood), or buy from another whose bacon is very popular. Buy a kilo of farm fresh eggs, many picked this morning, based on the wet poop still on some of them. So this is the supply chain going back 100's of years, and 100 years yet to come.

  5. Too bad AMLO has debudgeted the 2 agencies that investigate transparency and government corruption that they have been/are in shambles since the 2019 and now the 2020 federal budget. Nothing will get done here as usual.

  9. Absolutely! I'm just sorry Karina wasn't able to get a better description. People who do this need to be outed and socially shamed. And BTW I think it is also against the law here.

  10. I would imagine there are undercounts on all contagious diseases. The majority of people who get influenza don't run off to the doctor to get tested. They either feel lousy enough to call in sick and stay in bed for a day or two, or they don't feel all that bad, pop a tylenol and some other medication to lessen the symptoms, and carry on. I had chicken pox and measles as a child, as did most of us. So did my 3 daughters. I don't recall my parents taking me to the doctor, and I didn't take my girls- all parents knew what chicken pox and measles looked like and there wasn't anything a doctor could do for it- you just had to ride it out.

  11. These doctors in the video are private co-owners of 5 urgent care clinics. In other words, they are not only doctors, they are private businessmen. Rich ones, no doubt. More people coming in sick sounds like more profits for them. They aren't in the public health sector. It would be pertinent to know what their politics and agenda are. And self-isolating for a few months isn't going to weaken anyone's immune system- the statement that not going out and exposing oneself to posible coronavirus infection is going to make your immune system weaker is ludicrous. And saying it's no worse than the flu is simply a lie. These guys have an agenda, and it's not about putting out important information for the public good.

  12. Hereā€™s the other side of the story. Letā€™s understand that Kern county only has one major city(Bakersfield), is mostly desert-like withnsparse population. If these doctors want to learn about pandemics they should go visit New York. And you my friend should be smart enough than to paste such a one-sided story. https://www.turnto23.com/news/coronavirus/kern-county-public-health-does-not-concur-with-statements-made-by-accelerated-urgent-care-doctors

  14. A while back I got a note from a reader who chose not to sign in but to allow the word Guest to be used. It was a question about a type of woman's socks and how to say it in Spanish. I wanted to politely respond that I didn't even know what the word meant in English, let alone Spanish. But a couldn't send a private message to this person, because she did not signed in. So if you are the sender of this message to me, I would recommend that you join our web board and ask the question again When you join, you can choose a screen name and either private message me again and I will be able to respond or post the message under the topic heading of your choice. I hope you choose to join us, the Chapala Forum,(web board) we would love to have you. en to read this post, why not simply using your assigned name ask the question there. Oh and if you do not already have a screen name, you could always signup, join the Chapala Web board and choose a screen name

  15. The couple that exposed the world about the wonders of Mexico as seen through their innocent eyes have decided to return to Texas. Being locked down for a month in PV does take its toll.

  16. Again, we do need to remember that Mexico with its extended families, serious obesity and diabetes problems and lack of safety net really complicates the handling of this situation. Unfortunately I think it is going to come down to a choice between economic survival and accepting that more people will die here. That's pretty draconian too.

  17. Since we know some won't read this, here are some of the salient parts: It goes on to discuss how we might be prolonging the problem by preventing "herd immunity" and reminds us there is a cost associated with the deferral of other important medical procedures. Finally it makes a point I find very hard to dispute, namely that we should focus on the vulnerable and let the rest get on with their lives. The rest are the people who mainly do the work and need to work to live, they are the bulk of the population and if they don't work poverty explodes and everything grinds to a halt. And that is starting to happen. Check the recent reports of growing disruptions of the food system.

  19. AMLO has his hands full with this problem too. https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/cleaning-up-corruption-at-mexican-customs-proves-to-be-a-challenge/ You know, like a lot of people I am prone to harshly criticizing leadership from the 20:20 vision of hindsight. I have to say, though, I can't imagine what this job would be like just with trying to deal with the corruption, let alone the cartel problem, the staggering economy and now the CV problem on top of all the rest. I just can't imagine what this job must feel like day after day. I'm beginning to understand why the people who do it seem to age so rapidly after they are elected.

  20. I did not say that snowbirds would qualify on their SS alone. Most people who have a paid for home and SS in the US also have a nestegg for retiring. Even still there is no requirements for 180 day FMM and many people go back to the states and return over and over, while establishing the monetary requirements.

  22. And this section is about pets. That is the primary driver of topics here not the more general theme of the board. The primary reason here is pets, their care, their interaction with us, protecting them locally, that sort of thing. If you have a concern about a topic, there are two ways to address it: Ignore it or report it to a moderator. Playing moderator as several of you have is not one of those.

"As I was driving home late one Sunday evening through Bakersfield California/Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station/I heard the preacher say/You know you always have the lord by your side/And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran 20 red lights in his honor/Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord" --Jagger/Richards Seeing this, some people might say, "Fine, let the damn fool kill himself." On the other hand, some people might say, "No, call the cops. He might run over an old man too slow to get out of the way...or a baby held tight in her mother's arms...or crash into an ambulance rushing to save someone's life."

Okay, we were super hungry and ate it anyway but I just wanted to say (in case I..you know..don't make it), the pizza was not that good..not worth..you know.

  28. That's all fine and good but the numbers show very clearly this disease is not about the young and healthy. Let me put it really simply for you. Personal anecdotes do not negate large scale data and we have a ton of that and piling up rapidly. My personal anecdote is I have COPD and asthma and am 75 years old. That puts me in the 10-20 percent or higher fatality bracket if I get this. Am I being careful? You bet. Do I think that they should shut the world down for the young and healthy to try and protect me? No.

  29. That isn't the point! It's immaterial. Let me put it really, really, simply for you, using what happened between my 15 year old granddaughter and my daughter in Toronto. Before there were official isolating orders, my daughter , her husband and 18 year old granddaghter were already isolating. My daughter had a bad bout of pneumonia several years ago, so her lungs are compromised, and my son-in-law has some medical issues, too. The 15 year old was still sneaking out to hang with her friends, who were also sneaking out. My daughter sat her down and said "Look, if you get this virus, you probably won't get very sick, you might not even have any noticeable symtoms. But your father and I could die if you brought this virus into our home."
