2Expats
Hi All, My wife and I recently arrived and are just starting to orientate ourselves. We are currently at Roca Azul. My wife needs some blood work done for her specialist in Canada. What lab would be best? The requisition is in English.
sm1mex
Chopo or Go lab.
Mostlylost
The OP probably would prefer something in Joco. There are labs there but the requirement for them is English. Possibly Laboratorio Clínico Jocotepec 331 856 8144 might.
sm1mex
Don’t know.
Kiko
Joco is Spanish.
happyjillin
I'm going to Best Labs in Riberas today because I have used them several times successfully and they are recommended by my doctor.

Kiko
I've never seen a lab test in Mexico with the results in English.
Yo1
Any English-speaking doctor worth his salt will be able to interpret the results in Spanish. The words used in Spanish are Latin derived, just as in English. If the OP thinks there will be a problem, get the results translated before sending to Canada. lakeside7
There are a number of "family" owned labs in Joco, a couple I have used, but do not recall location. Perhaps check at City Hall or any store
happyjillin
If I can read my Spanish lab test results and understand them so can any doctor.
CHILLIN
Is this for INR? Our medic officer on this ship, Ferret, recommends keeping to the same lab for INR. There is very good blood specialist who comes to Quality Care from Guadalajara.
HoneyBee
The reports may be in Spanish but all you need is to read is the numbers for each test to see if they are normal levels or if outside then you need to speak to your doctor. That is why I love Mexico as you do not need a doctor to get blood work done.

2Expats
Thanks all for the advise. We checked out both Chopo and Golab. Chopo was far more professional and less expensive. The results were emailed baçk in about 6 hours. The cost would have been about the same had they in done in Ontario. However, turnaround time is quite impressive. I also like the fact we get the results and not simply sent to the doctor who may or may not disclose the results.

In Canada, doctors can withhold test results from the patient?????
AndyPanda
Since when does anyone pay for lab work in Ontario? Or any province? Doesn't your doctor/GP do the requisitioning, and not the patient?

For instance I need to pay for PSA test, an early detection test for prostate cancer. All testing needs a doctor's requisition.

Yes, when lab work is requested it is requested by the doctor. The results are sent to them and they can share results at their discretion.
Ferret
Welcome to the adult world of Mexican medicine. I'm sorry I'm late to the party but assumed (incorrectly) that you would have wanted a lab in Jocotepec. I always recommend the Chopo Lab. You can walk into any lab and order whatever you want checked out (blood tests) and the results will be sent wherever you want. It's a breath of fresh air. MtnMama
As a side note, living in Roca Azul, if you do Facebook, I suggest you consider joining the WestEnders Facebook group. They are a great source for information on most anything going on in Jocotopec.

We were heading to Chapala anyway for other things. Seems like setting up a bank account is a bigger challenge than we originally thought. Check LifeLabs website, you just need to create a user account (no charge). Pretty sure that is the law, too. It's usually those of my countrymen who are against "universal health care" that keep flogging this dead horse.

If you are referring to the dead horse as the Canadian medical system, I would agree.
