I see people here in Mexico living on the edge every day---what's the news?--living day by day. You gringos should just observe and keep your mouth shut-!--You just foster envy and hate---I have live in Mexico" full time"  for 25 years and I mind my business, and blend-! Many of my Mexican Friends ask me why am I here--I respond " I"m here because; I'm here--end of conservation--Just today I took a beer and chips run  here in Vallarta at my local OXXO--Low and behold the locals were having a beer break at 2:00 P.M. and the police ran them off--Here in Vallarta the money is flowing in; and they are clamping down on everybody--The new Mayor here has hired 31 new police and 13 are women-Oh I can see the problems with that!!--Newbeys bring abuse to the people--Especially women--  YOU KNOW WOMEN ARE CONTROL FREAKS--HA-Ask my Mexican wife; well all women for that matter--HA---HA- Sorry-Newbeys always cause more problems than they are worth--here to offend---HA

YES-- I see it every day- here in Vallarta--

Are you asking if I've seen anyone drop dead in front of me?----NO--Most people who are dying usually go home, feeling ill, die in their bed; un be knowns only to the immediate family.--I hope that satisfies ; but I doubt it---

Smiling does not necessarily mean the person is happy or content with his/her lot.  Slaves have been known to wear a smile as a way of life.

So you are comparing Mexicans to slaves??? Amazing!!!

Compared to most of the rest of the world, Mexico is doing very well. Sn. Google: "With a population of almost 130 million, a rich cultural history and diversity, and abundant natural resources, Mexico is among the 15 largest economies in the world and the second largest economy in Latin America."

Mexico is STILL a free and democratic country, plus if they are not happy here they can always find thier way to the US southern border that is wide open...OH...I forgot: the US is a racist, homophobic, jingoistic and misogynist country!!! Maybe better to stay here.....

You should get out more. Ex-pat enclaves are not representative of the vastness of this country.

Yes, there are plenty of Mexican laborers who crawl around in a hot, dusty tomato field all day, or haul buckets of cement up a ladder on their shoulders for minimum wage.

In response to Gringohombre's thoughtless comment regarding slavery and our Mexican poor who have to get by on very little, my point was simply that "smiling" does not mean happiness or contentment.  How hard is that to comprehend, eh?  Also, getting across the southern border to the U.S. (regardless what is going on in the U.S) is no easy task at all.  Thinking about the details of getting that accomplished by a person now living on at least a minimum wage is....mind boggling!

Of course, judgment on a subject requires some imagination, doesn't it?

YOU brought up the comment and comparison to slavery, so let's get real here!!! Also it does not take imagination to do the research that shows comparatively speaking México is not doing badly at all regarding GDP and living standards. Of course all that will change quickly for the worse if certain people here get thier way by forcing socialism and other left wing radical systems on the country. And as far as Mexicans smiling, I have travelled the world and like to think of this land as the country of smiles....and IMHO all authentic and sincere, not at all forced as you seem to imply!!!

Gringohombre misses lots of points. But never misses any opportunity  he can possibly dig up to mention the "evils" of socialism and liberals.

Socialism IS evil...just read any history on it and you will see it inevitably starts with leftist "liberal" dogma that goes off the rails and ends in...you name the catastrophic countries that have ended up being run and demolished by murderous mad men and thier comrades!!!

To clarify. YOUR constant inability to understand the nuanced difference between Socialism, Communism and Social Democracy is what makes us sad.

Let ME be clear...The godfathers of Socialism were Marx/Engels/Lenin and when thier grand scheme failed, took it to the next step in Russia...Communism!!! The most recent examples of this EVIL morphing can be seen right here in our own hemisphere...Cuba and Venezuela. I note that you are using the name Social Democracy and not Socialist Democracy since this would be an oxymoron...Socialism and Democracy are at either ends of a political spectrum and in no way can exist together!!!

You need to go back to school somewhere other than where you went but if it was a University, see if you can get your money back.

Hey, Gringohombre, if you are interested in facts (which it is quite obvious you aren't), you could start with very simple self-education.

Try looking up "Socialism" on Wikipedia, and clicking on the "History" section.

Here's how it starts:

"Socialist models and ideas espousing common or public ownership have existed since antiquity."
