Oatsie
We have to go to Laredo to legalize our car and want to spend a couple of nights... shopping, eating etc. Any recommendations for mid-range hotel/motels ?
ComputerGuy
Truly the worst town NOB to go shopping. There is a huge mall right beside my hotel of choice, but no box stores or anything like that. The Courtyard Marriott. Two years ago wangled a deal for $80/night and stayed two nights. They have a free shuttle that will take you anywhere. Also includes large breakfast, happy hour food and drinks. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/lrdcy-courtyard-laredo/ https://www.malldelnorte.com/
RickS
I like the La Quinta Inn right on I35.... hotel row. $65 Free breakfast. More like a large motel than a one-building hotel, but.... 1
El Menudo
I have stayed at the la Quinta airport several times. In years past it has been well kept up and has a fair Tex mex restaurant next door. The restaurant is a little on the pricey side for Tex mex.
Mostlylost
Springhill by Marriott. Use senior rate for lowest cost. Free shuttle. Monday-Thursday from 5pm to7pm free beer, wine, sodas and snacks. A plus ...franchisee is a Shriner.
RCman
Yes again for La Quinta right on I35.
NoVaDamer
Two years back, we stayed at La Posada, which is right on the river and near the downtown border crossing. Nice place, good restaurants, guarded underground parking, I recall around $100 USD a night. https://historiclaposadahotel.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral
solajijic
RedRoof Inn $ 50-65 a night. Continental B in the AM - nice new rooms. HomeDepot, Macys, SteinMart, Walmart etc.. HEBs everywhere.
Wookie
We just last week stayed at the Ava Hotel. Clean, great beds, good breakfast, excellent service, free WiFi. Used to be a Ramada. $38.00 plus tax on Expedia. We stayed there last year as well.

k2tog
They have the usual small town shopping Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory, lots of discount kinds of stores.
Wookie
Again, we were just in Laredo. The mall has a Macy's, Dillards and J.C. Penney's. This is in the Mall del Norte located on I-35 just 3 to 5 miles after you cross the border.
El Cartero
Have always stayed at the hotel on Hillside Drive. Beside a great burger joint, think its called Fudruckers. Otherside of the hotel is the mall. Sketchers, Bed Bath Beyond just up the street from the mall, close tomDMV. Sorry can’t recall the name

Mainecoons
If you have a choice as to where to go to do the car process, go to McAllen. Much better choices for lodging, shopping and eating out. Cross at Pharr.
Yo1
Just so you know, the Pharr crossing is closed to car traffic from 8am-4pm. Of course, there are no signs telling you this. I sat in a line of trucks for about a hour to get up to the car passage and it was closed. I was directed by signs to go around and around and ended up at the Hidalgo crossing.
AngusMactavish
My experiences with the Mexican consulate in McAllen would say, no way! I have never been to Laredo's but I see so many that have. Brownsville has a co-operative and comfortable office and while they require appointments, my many experiences there have shown that if you go first thing in the morning that they will work you in.
