cstone
Hi All, As I consider an update of my current kitchen, the idea of repainting my old cabinets has come to mind. They are old, heavy duty and wood, through and through. It seems a shame to throw them out. Even if not painted, perhaps a thorough refinishing job and new stain would do the trick. Any ideas ? JayBearII
Mine were 18 years old and showing wear. Our house painter repainted them both inside and outside 2 years ago and they look great. The only hard part was moving all the dishes, etc., etc. and then remembering where they all went. THAT was not fun--the living room/dining room was filled with boxes and I had to eat out for a couple of days.
Joyinmexico
I just cleaned with dishwater a old Mexican coffee table. I stained it when it was dry and it looks NEW! If you don't mind wood I would do this!
bmh
I had mine done by a painter and then had Victor Romero paint some flowers on them

When asked her what was wrong with the colors, she replied that in all her 53 years of living in Mexico and visiting family and friends in various cities and pueblos, both rich and poor, she has never see anything like that. She has seen something similar in houses of extranjeros here and thinks these people must think that this type of decoration is what is typically found in Mexican houses. She says that could not be farther from the truth. Just goes to show what we don't know about Mexico, but think we do.
bournemouth
Surely this is a matter of personal preference and not what is usual in most Mexican kitchens.
Xena
Is it possible that the person really likes the colors and combination, that it makes her happy and has nothing to do with thinking this is how Mexicans paint their kitchens?

Xena
So, now we judge the motivations of strangers in painting their kitchens and criticize them publically based upon the judgement we have passed on them? I would say, based on photos of BG’s previous kitchen, it is safe to say that this is what she likes.

bmh
All the pictures shown including that of the "Mexican" kitchen or the idea of a decorator of a Mexican kitchen are all foreign kitchens and thank God ,, after 17 years in Mexico I have yet to see a kitchen rich of poor I would have.. People decorate for a lot of diferent reasons but I think those kitchens are nice, who cares if they are Mexican or not, as long as the owners like them , the rest is irrelevant. Someone asked for exemple of painted cabinets and that is what came out in 2 of the 3 pictures

I'm sure it does make her happy,or she would not have painted it like that; but, I do think many from NOB think that is what a "real" Mexican Kitchen looks like. As Tiny says, you can find this type of décor in restaurants and also a few hotels and B&B in Mexican Tourist areas, both in Mexico and NOB. Anyone ever been to a Rosa's Café NOB? If so, how many restaurants in Mexico have you seen that look like that? Rarely, verdad? As I said before, I really like it, but must keep the lady happy, right?
