Guadalajara Hospitals as an Alternative to Local Lakeside hospital

As an alternative to a local hospital, can anyone give me reviews on any of the following Guadalajara hospitals?

San Javier

Puerto de Hierro

JOYA (this one appears very new)

This is for a non-emergency surgery.  I am looking for your opinions on cost/benefit and especially if you know of any good general surgeons working at these hospitals.

Does JOYA have any connection to Dr. Joya a gastrointestinal surgeon? If so, I would go there anytime. He performed 2 hernia surgeries on me in PV and a few years ago he had a new hospital in Nuevo Vallarta built. His specialty is the bypass surgery for morbid obesity.

Do you have a doctor you are consulting for the surgery?  Your surgeon would have permissions for certain hospitals. There are hundreds of surgeons using the hospitals you are asking about.

How long would you be in the hospital post op?

Both Puerto Hierro hospitals are excellent, as is San Javier, I have no experience with JOYA

That's interesting.  Yes, I can see it does have a connection from their website.  It looks like the same group owns several hospitals in several cities, with the primary in Puerta Vallarta.  There must be something about the model that is working . . . although I'm guessing Dr. Joya himself would not be available now/

Well, I have communicated with 2 surgeons by phone but I don't have any personal recommendations for them, just going by online reviews which I realize can easily be padded. But if people from lakeside are having surgeries at these hospitals, they must have recommendations or opinions about some of the general surgeons as well as opinions on the hospitals.

Please, please,please....stay away from these local hospitals for anything serious!!!  They overcharge and there have been so many people here with bad experiences, me being one of them. A dear friend of our died at one due to a sevete infection after a hip replacement.  I recently had spine surgery at Country Hospital 2000 in Guadalajara....excellent first class care!

I agree, select your surgeon carefully, then discuss hospital options in the city.

All the best to you!

Basically most private hospitals in Mexico are nicer than NOB. With better and far cheaper service. Private rooms, many with separate entrances to your room for Drs/nurses and for visitors.  Have seen marble bathrooms with monogramed towels, and even the bottled water private label in some.

Over the years I have had friends and relatives in many of the GDL private hospitals.  Haven't been to one I would not recommend.

As many have posted you should choose your surgeon first. They will tell you which hospitals they have privileges in.

There is a whole bunch of smaller private hospitals in Guadalajara, that are FAAAR less expensive and as good as the ones mentioned above.

As far as I know all board certified Drs. can treat at any hospital in Guadalajara.

I know of 2 high end private hospitals in San Luis Potosi where we own "consultorios" in their medical towers beside the hospital where only Drs. with a contract with these hospitals can rent the facilities options and one of my wife's nieces who is an eye specialist had to pay a one time $14,000 USD fee to be able to use their specialized Otomology facility inside the hospital - see below their website's ad - plus paying a fee for everything and if her patients were admitted more fees. Drs.  just can't pick any hospital to have their patients admitted and then treating them there for fees. It is compilcated and the higher end hospitals are selective.
