Pelican9
Hello, i will appreciate any information from those with personal experience about the best test to locate if and where a stent is needed if there is a stent lab at lakeside and recomended Dr. to see about these issues. Thanks in advance
sm1mex
Dr. Briseño. Quality care. I believe he can do stints at San Antonio Hospital. He has a cardiac Cath lab at QC. I Know he has done a heart valve replacement at SAH.
sm1mex
Dr. Héctor Briseño the cardiologist. Not Dr. Daniel Briseño the gasto Dr.
RickS
Chest X-Ray, electrocardiogram, blood tests and/or coronary angiogram are a few things that can be done prior to placing a stent. But even that/those are not conclusive. Just had a friend who was being told that he had one artery that was totally blocked and another 40% blocked. When the cardiologist went in to stint, he found one artery was perfectly open and the other was not bad enough to warrant a stint! Caveat Emptor comes to mind but who does one believe!?!

Same happened to me. Dr. woke me up on the table to tell me the good news. Then sent me back to sleep while he closed.
Pelican9
Thanks to all of you who responded to this, but now another question.. Does anyone know from experience if bradycardia tends to get better or worsen at medium altitude such as lakeside or better at or near sea level, one cardio i talked says one thing 2nd cardio says opposite

Jreboll
That study was done on subjects living at 10,000 feet altitude. Chapala is at about 5000 feet so that study might be irrelevant. Pelican9 makes no mention of other mitigating factors so it’s hard to give him an intelligent answer.

Jreboll
Dr. Nathan Pritikin did extensive studies on this and published a best seller. https://www.pritikin.com/healthiest-diet/pritikin-eating-plan
Tingting
OK, I'll give some general info because this isn't my story to tell and not my place to give someone else's info...but...(lol, always a but)... After using quite a few of the docs in the area with varying results -- and the same with the hospitals -- we now go to Guad for the specialists. Yes, some folks have had good luck with "X" doctor and will defend him/her, but that wasn't our experience. As it turns out, it was an excellent decision because specialized cardiac work is needed and there is no one or place here that I would trust for this particular procedure. Again, it's just our experiences, so please take with a large grain of salt. For those interested, Doctoralia i(an app) is an excellent site that gives you the background on the docs, their specialties, languages spoken, real reviews, etc.

That is the reason patients flock to cardiac centers in Houston, Mayo Clinic, etc. Skill and expertise are gained through repetitive behavior and that’s true also for cardiac care.
Intercasa
Well if you have a cardiac emergency and go to a good hospital and get 3 stents and are there about 5 days which is a quick recovery the bill usually runs $1,000,000 pesos, if you need cardiac ablation and are there 2 days the bill runs $2,000,000 pesos.

Kiko
Hospital and other medical costs vary greatly in this area. PV and Guadalajara are much more expensive than Colima for example. My buddy had a stent in Colima City about 3 months ago and the cost was 120,000 MXN total. Another friend of mine was in a bad moto accident in PV. After he was stabilized the doctors said he needed about 3,000,000 MXN for more surgeries. His family brought him to Guadalajara in an ambulance and the surgeries were performed for $1,000,000. YMMV

They are from Guadalajara and they have trusted doctors there. In addition, coming up with 3,000,000 pesos in one day is not so easy for most people. A decision had to be made. He was in surgery in Guadalajara within 8 hours of leaving PV and has had 7 surgeries since then in GDL and two years of PT. None of us know what we would do in an emergency such as this family experienced. He was in a coma and the family made the best decision at the time in my opinion.

""""None of us know what we would do in an emergency such as this family experienced. He was in a coma and the family made the best decision at the time in my opinion."""" Yes, they did make the best decision....but why we/you have to share other people's experiences is beyond me, because it is always going to receive reaction comments from others, and about their friend's experiences, which most of the time is irrelevant. We are all different and therefore need medical treatment to suit ....there is no one size, or solution, to fit all, period. What is a fact, private medical in Mexico is getting "expensive" and getting out of reach for a segment of (long-time retired) Gringo's.
Kiko
@lakeside7. The reason I posted the info was point out that medical costs vary greatly in this area. From my post I received a pm from a member who is need of cardio surgery and he lives in Colima. So there was a benefit for one member. Apparently that annoys you. In addition I find your comments crass.: "I can just imagine this person being taken around like a sack of potatoes looking for the Best Deal.....oh dear he has expired"

barrbower
I had a stent placed in the LAD artery (widow maker) about six years ago at total cost was 7,500 dollars (about 100,000 pesos then.) Diagnosis was done first with Guad doc but at local office. Final diagnosis done at his office at Guad hospital the next day. One day later the stent was done at a different hospital that was less expensive. I was in a space age operating room with about eight docs and other staff and watched the entire process on a large TV. Was able to see the dye stop at the point of the blockage, watched the medicated stent being inserted and opened, and watched the blood flow begin normally. They were ready to place a pacemaker if needed but until such time I was not even sedated. Felt no discomfort and spent a quiet evening in the hospital. The next morning the first person I saw, other than my wife, was the surgeon. He went over the hospital portion of the bill to make sure I was billed only for what was done and then they ran my credit card and we were headed home in a cab. All of that happened in four days and I was not having any symptoms related to the heart. Our GP heard a pausing in my heart beat and recommended a cardio doc. I feel pretty lucky about the entire experience. Alan
