gringohombre
My property is quite large and I have father and son gardeners (who are the husband and brother of my maids) and are here weekly for a couple of hours. Most of it is a large grassy yard that they mow as well as rake leaves from the large tree canopy's. Of course during the rainy season the grass grows proficiently however in our "dry" season does not. I have for years somewhat kept the grass growing with those spike sprinklers that rotate and cover a circular area. The problem is that depending on the water pressure (it varies here), it stops circling as well as not distributing water evenly within its arch. Also I have found that these tend to malfunction and crap out easily. Would like to hear some comments and advise as to a better watering system for my situation. Again, muchas gracias for all the sage advise and knowledge regularly imparted here.
SunFan
Given your water pressure it sounds like you'll need to add a pressure system (pump and tank) in addition to your valves and spray heads. SunFan
Mainecoons
No sprinkler system will work well without consistent pressure. So start by fixing that problem.
mkshawn
In addition to SunFans answer: if your pressure system is set for a pressure range say 30-60psi you can add a pressure regulator to the sprinkler supply lines limiting the psi to a stable amount of pressure say 30psi± This of course limits the adjustments necessary as the pressure tank empties. CHILLIN
Maybe buy a male Golden Lab. The best answer is to let the grass die, it will come back rapidly during the rainy season. Water is too valuable to waste in this country. Water the trees and plants.

It will all green up again within days in the rainy season. Watering large lawns is a first- worlders idea, a criminal waste of water and is banned in many places.

Sounds a bit arrogant to me and what has that got to do with it unless you plan on pumping the water from the lake onto your property? If not, then you are drawing from the SAT well which has had problems in the past. If there are problems again with this system, people will be without water for days as has happened in recent years. Water is fungible. My tiny, tiny amount for watering, that I pay for, will go back into the water table or evaporate to the clouds to provide more rain. 1

My problem is that I am losing my high frequency hearing. There are only a few female singers that I can properly hear. Joan Jett and Patti Smith come to mind. Also, you are forgetting that this is a socialist country. The people of Mexico own the Lake, all rivers, streams, the wells, even arroyos. They make the rules to benefit the common good.

And as far as I know, this is not a socialist country yet, although El Norte is certainly headed that way and you should know who will be next!!! That is the obvious and right solution. Head stuck in the first world where as we have serious water shortages in Mexico. I live in the Raquet Club where they have acres of watered grass but some houses here and many in adjacent SanJuan Cosala don't get enough water. It is a problem that will have to be resolved soon as some wells are going dry in Jalisco. I had a large property in the Raquet Club that had 5 different levels and it would have cost a lot to put in a proper irrigation system and it would have used a lot ot water. So I just made sure that the sod they installed could withstand drought and bounce back to green lawn when it rained.

Mainecoons
How can a place that gets 30 inches or more (40 inches last season) each rainy season have a water shortage? Is it a water shortage or a government competence shortage? Our gardens and lawns support a great variety of birds, insects, lizards, etc. How many would be supported by a concrete yard? They also remove CO2 all year as they are green all year. Returning to topic, at the Garden Center next to the old 7-11 in Riberas they have someone who can diagnose and work on sprinkler issues. It does sound like your primary problem is pressure which can be addressed by a plumber.

Why don't you run a hose into the lake, pump your own when it is watering time, and solve all of your problems that way? That way, you can have consistent pressure, supply, and not put demand on the local wells. Many golf courses do this when they border on a lake or a river. Plus you'll have all that "nutrient rich" lake water which can only be good for the lawn......

As I mentioned in another topic there is a large swath of "Public Land" in front of my property that is illegally being squatted on by a guy and his cows. I am sure that you would not want me to infringe on Government "rights" by illegally using thier land also. Some use any excuse to promote thier "climate change", "global warming", "new green deal" propaganda to infringe on others rights. Why do you not spend your time by going to the Chapala government office and picket them for selling me thier water???

Water distribution is controled by government not by selfish users and alot of food is produced from this watr. Too many people and users live in this area and there is not enough water storage or enough government control of usage. An example an ignorant statement like this; " Water is fungible. My tiny, tiny amount for watering, that I pay for, will go back into the water table or evaporate to the clouds to provide more rain. " Someone does not understand the water cycle.
