desafinada
I have been using Overdrive and my library card from NOB to access e books on my Android tablet. My library card has expired and I no longer have someone who can go and renew it. They require it be done in person. What other options are there out there? I have checked into Kindle books but there are 5 publishing houses that will not provide content to Kindle. Is there anything like Netflix for books? I don't mind paying a nominal subscription fee for unlimited content. BTW, I am looking for books, not audio books. TIA for you answers.
Willie
There are quite a few sites that provide free books for my Fire and I think you might be able to download the kindle version to your Android tablet. Amazon has a ton of free books...
ronhereagain
I've been using Free-Ebooks.net for a few years. Decent lists of books, lots of categories. I think it was a one time subscription of 29.95 and never expires. Works for my needs.

gringal
Just an anecdote about ebooks. I belong to a local book club which focuses on selecting monthly books which have won significant awards. So, every month I take my selection over to LCS library first and in three years, I've only found one or two of them there. This is followed by paying a fee to Amazon for the e-book. This pattern makes me wonder what the LCS book selection group is thinking. 🙃
CHILLIN
Scripd.com has a thirty day free trial, the $8.99 per month unlimited access. They have popular, best selling books, magazines and audio books (although you are not interested in those)
Tiny
Do they have English and Spanish comic books on E-books? That may be a nice gift.

kgreenbury
I just searched for "free online libraries" and got quite a range of results, depending on what type of reading material you're after. Haven't explored further yet, but a little time surfing could be worthwhile...

Mostlylost
Find an address in Chicago that is a vacant lot (hint google maps) then register with the Chicago Public Library as an "electronic user" which means only electronic book. They use Overdrive. Quick & easy. Has worked for me for 9 years
