Ollie
I have a truck year 2002, can I apply to temporary residency in Mexico, I heard that there is a limit on how old the car it has to be to bring it to Mexico. Thank you,
Mostlylost
If your question is can you get a TIP (temporary import permit) for a model year 2002 the answer is yes. There is no year requirement to qualify for a TIP. Here are the TIP requirements: https://www.gob.mx/banjercito/articulos/sistema-de-importacion-temporal-de-vehiculos?idiom=es On a previous post you indicated you are here on a tourist permit with a TIP now that expires on February 4th. Be sure that vehicle leaves Mexico by that date or you will be denied a TIP in the future when you want to enter with your Residente Temporal application in progress. 1
RickS
mostly.... Residente Permanente or Residente Temporal. We both know that one cannot have a foreign plated vehicle in Mexico with a Permanente.

Mainecoons
Once you go Temporal, after 4 years you have to go Permanente or start the cycle all over again by leaving. Permanentes cannot have U.S. plated cars. 1
Voir dire
Unfortunately, people don't always abide by the "no foreign plates" rule. Our neighbor drove a huge nob car for 5 years after becoming Permanente. The car stood out as it was so large. No one ever pulled them over asking for documentation. RickS
Sometimes it's just ignorance.
Ferret
And then there's that little stipulation about Mexican insurance not being valid if the car is not legally in the country. People take chances all the time but they better not complain when the $hit hits the fan.
Mostlylost
People don't realize that if their vehicle is not legal the insurance is not valid. If they are in an accident the vehicle will be impounded, they will pay a large fine, probably will stay a night in jail, and could lose their residency.
