It can get really complicated. My Irish grandfather was a coal miner who worked in Wales where he met my Welsh grandmother. Then they moved to Lancashire, England. I gave up because the records of marriage, births and deaths were in three different countries. So much easier when people stay put.

Same for me, just too difficult.  Welsh, Irish, English.

This is another part of the problem...

Variations of the Irish surname Carty

  • Ó Carthaigh - the original Gaelic form of the surname
  • Carthy - a common variation of the surname
  • MacCarthy - another variation of the surname, which is more commonly found in Munster

Each of these variations shares the same origin and meaning as the Carty surname.

I ran into the same problem, way too many variations:Example:

Cumin, Cumins, Cumine, Cummin, Cummins, Cummine, Comings, Commin

Flaherty, O'Flaherty, Flaverty, Laverty, Faherty and many more.
