  1. I've lived here over 20 years and still don't know most of the posters personally, but this is one guy I hope never to have anything to do with. Why is it people claim that they are upfront and honest when they just plain rude and crude? This board is composed of a community and we are all trying to support one another, share information and sometimes bring a little levity to our experiences. Every post by this guy is confrontational. He obviously thinks he is of superior mental and moral character and wants to cudgel us with his wisdom. Although I notice he never seems to have anything to offer but negativity. I'm not a fan of banning, but some people should not be encouraged by people engaging with them. He seems to thrive on his guardian-against-BS role which is anything that doesn't fit his narrow view. I especially don't like it when he goes after long time valuable posters for some persieved slight. It is funny for him to write about self awareness when he has none..."Those that know don't say and those who say don't know."
  2. I've been watching the development of the lot behind Farmacia Guadalajara and ran into the owner. He's a nice Mexican young man who is interested in keeping I'll keeping a clean Kosher kitchen and using organic ingredients as much as possible. He bakes his own breads and bagels and has free trade coffees. Best thing, he's planning on opening at 8am and he's in my neighborhood! It's a beautiful clean and cozy place. He said he'll be opening this week, either Wednesday or Thursday.....I'll keep ya posted.
  3. I am always suspicious of these kinds of programs where people from far away can dictate local life right down to the color you can paint your house, getting rid of local vendors in the name of cleaning up, whether you are exposed to 5G technology, what else? I was surprised how quickly this status was pushed through with negligible local participation or review. What are we signed up for? Is there a master plan? Who gets the money? What is the oversight organization and how much power do they hold? As far as I am concerned Ajijic has been, is now and hopefully will be a magical town filled with magical people. I love and appreciate this town and its people more each year and I've been here 20. " We don't need to show you no stinking badges.." If I was to propose one idea it would be to put in a local parking lot/transit hub with regular golfcart loop through town. The perfect spot is a large vacant lot that runs between the Carretera frontage road and Guadalupe Victoria near Farmacia Guadalajara. It has easy access on both sides and a bus top.The family that owns it has a big sign for sale or rent, so maybe a deal could be made. This would relieve some parking congestion and some people simply will not come to Ajijic if they can't park within a block of the plaza. This way they can park easily and securely and be carted to the plaza, malecon and around back to the transit hub. Anyone want to offer an opinion? I shudden a asked.....
  4. Went by today to stock up on Halloween candy and what a sellection they had! I chose two bags of individually wrapped candies, but I've learned my lesson. You never know how many neighborhood kids will come by and you're stuck with a half bag of lollipops. So this time I bought something I like to share, just in case I have to eat the remainder.... Dulcelandia has sugar skulls, candy in bulk, american bars, homemade sweets and locally made (Guadalajara) from Del la Rosa and Mottee, plus balloons and everything else for a party.
  5. Please share your source with me when you find it. I thought I saw a huge vine of it poking over the back wall of the shop now called Bohemis at the corner of Madero (Colon) and Independencia in Ajijic . I also found some wild last year near the Wilkes Center. The leaves are spectacular when used to wrap fish or chicken and grill or pan fry....has a light anise flavor and pleasant tecture I believe it also has medicinal uses.
  6. The Grand Opening is tomorrow Wednesday October 14th at noon. They will have free samples and some give- aways... Parroquia #12A ,Ajijic plaza
  7. This is a precious little cafe with an upstairs balcony over Colon at #4B. The downstairs is sleek yet cozy with special cocoa drinks, teas, coffee and pastries. Before CoVid it was Namaste Cafe, but now it has new owners. Nice place to meet up with a friend or make a new one....
  8. Perhaps I was a little curious as I rented this space for 8 years for Jasmine's Classic India, but they've done a great job spiffing the place up. It's a large space and they were filling it with shelves and counters and bringing in boxes of products. The young woman, Chrystal told me that they'll have party supplies. pinatas, sweets from cheap to expensive, spices, nuts and planning on having a regular Sunday barbeque. Opening Oct.13th, noon, Parroquia #12A on the Ajijic plaza.
  9. And how is this Christina's fault? The OP has his prescription and only needs frames. This place used to have Dr. Salvadore there until he went to Guadalajara to further his education. He is now on Hidalgo 2 doors west of the plaza in Ajijic. I've had the same excellent prescription for 10 years and the frames are still good, all from these people.
  10. I had to laugh at the OP. The public here are the health and safety inspectors. A business that makes people sick is quickly shunned and goes out of business. The OP assumes that regulations make things safe--not. They are there as a way to control the little guys and create a cash flow. When you actually look at the infrastructure in the USA for checking our food supply you will find it under funded and lax about the basic commodities coming into the country. This pandemic has brought out the worst in squeamish people , I know because I used to be one of them, but I grew up. The health problems here in Mexico aren't caused by home made foods, but nice clean poisonous processed foods and sodas. If something doesn't seem right to you just don't buy it/eat it, but don't lay that trip on the rest of us. The last thing we want is for Mexico to become more like the USA. I agree with Pedro---did I just say that?
  11. So why are you sticking your nose where it doesn't belong again? Second time in as many days that you feel impelled to post from your self-centered viewpoint that makes you look like a jerk. Say it forget it, write it regret it. This type of announcement is allowed, its been gone over many times, so get a life....
  12. There has been many alcohol poisonings in Ajijic over the last few days. Our neighbors are having a wake for a young man, 25 who ingested it. Another neighbor's brother, an older man is hospitalized. There's a wake 2 blocks over for another victim, a young woman. So far I've heard of 9....
  13. I mix the cheap sealant from walmart with Resistol , a white glue that can be bought in flakes and polvito de marmol, powdered marble. It gets down and seals all the tiny cracks. Also use this formula---minus the marmol-- as a base coat to cover up any dark colors before painting....
  14. The Guadalajara reporter emailed me after this posting and said he never received the obit, so I forwarded it to him and its in this week's paper. Many thanks to all who responded. theguadalajarareporter.net/index.php/news/news/obituaries/55191-obituaries-may-09-2020
  15. So glad you shared those memories of a fine man and how his life affected some many people. Rest in Peace, Ted.
  16. And where are people who are stuck here supposed to go? What a nasty thing to say to someone who has suffered such a calamity. Both of you posters should be ashamed. What makes you so self-righteous that you feel you have to post to pile onto someone's misery? Okay, you may feel that way and it is your right, but to post makes me feel sick....this is a time for compassion, not vilification .
  17. that's okay info, but as soon as I can I will be going back to Telmex. The unreliability of the phone is a deal killer for me. It was especially hard when my husband was dying and waiting for the Doctora to call and it's dropping the calls. this last week I missed more than a dozen calls when I was right next to the phone....
  18. His beans are sold at Black & White Coffee on the Ajijic Plaza by the cup or bag.....
  19. I thought that was my problem too. I went to Ilox yesterday and they said it would be up in a few hours. When it was still not up this morning I returned. When she ran my account info she said that i had been terminated for nonpayment! I paid for a year in advance about a year and a half ago. They never sent me even an email bill, always 0000. Seems crazy to turn off paying customers without notice.....
  20. I was waiting for the Guadalajara Reporter to publish the obituary that I submitted more than a month ago,but still nothing so here it goes.....My husband, Michael Robbins died on March 2 at home in his own bed under his own terms with me by his side. He had caught Hep B and C in Mexico 55 years ago and at 81 it led to conjestive heart failure which is an easier and less painful way to go. He had no regrets, a long and productive life. He was born on March 13, 1938 in LA and his grandfather owned movie theaters--the Loma. Linda, Midway and Variety--so he went whenever he could. His Dad died when he was 13 and he channelled his energy into becoming a gymnast. He was LA Champion of 1955 and spent all of his summers working out at Muscle Beach 6-8 hours a day. He was the first person to receive a full scholarship to UC-Berkeley in that sport and went on to become a National Champion. It was there that he met his first wife, Mary Lawrence while teaching trampoline. He became part of Berkeley royalty as her father was the Nobel Physicist E.O. Lawrence. After their marriage broke up he lived in Mexico for 5 years part of which he taught psychology at Blake College in Valle de Bravo. On returning to California he became interested in other classical musics and realized that he would have to go to India to learn seriously. He spent 7 years in Calcutta learning from Pundits Radhika Mohan Maitre and Jnan Prakash Ghosh sarode and tabla and making his musical debut at Calcutta's largest music hall, the Mahajati Sadan in 1979. He taught hundreds of students in California and performed there until 2000 when he moved permanently to lakeside with his wife, Nancy. They continued teaching and performing all over Mexico and built their homebase on the plaza Ajijic in 2012 by creating "Jasmine's Classic India" a restaurant and performance venue. This was a place that he, his students and visiting artists could perform and he enjoyed it all. He is survived by his wife, accompanyist and best friend, Nancy and their 2 daughters, Dr Papagena Robbins , a professor of documentary film in Montreal and Renee Strain, a MPA in San Francisco along with her husband, Jerome, kids Jasmine, 13, Jeremiah, 10 and Genevieve,7. His eldest daughter, Kalyani Robbins is a law professor at Loyola in Chicago and has 2 boys Skyler, 14 and Maxfield ,10. They all love Mexico and have visited in the last year. Michael will be greatly missed, especially by his family and students . A Lot of knowledge went with him and he will be missed by all who had a lively discussion with him on the plaza.
  21. one of the qualities of Vit C is that it strengthens cell walls. Virus need to use the reproductive apparatus of the cell to replicate so if the cell walls are tight it can't get in. the FDA and the CDC were bought off years ago by big pharma so we all have to bring our own expertise to the problems today. by suggesting that people shouldn't take preventive measures and only entrust themselves to the medical establishment makes you a dangerous fool. the germs are around us all the time, its our immune system that keeps us well. sunlight, clean air, exercise, less stress, good food and supplements if we need them are necessary for good health. as a society we have turned to little sunlight, polluted air, little exercise, constant stress, GMO and microwaved foods and pharmaceuticals that mask symptoms instead of addressing deficiencies. we all have to wake up and take back our individual responsibility for our own bodies. and by the way, Linus Paulings work was not debunked, it is more valid today than at any time before.
  22. a third thumbs up. I've used him many times and he does a good, fast , inexpensive job. I have to call him this week as our avocado tree has put out roots that buckled the tiles on our walkway. We dug it up and found that the big roots had crushed the drain pipe from the casita. We'll continue digging ,but Jose Luis will get to reroute the drain....
  23. Locally go to El Gordo Polleria on the Carretera in Ajijic a few doors west of Colon. They have the same supplier as Puritan and Flavio will ground chicken to order and he speaks english....
  24. The crazy part is that you seem to be denying that there is a biological warfare program going on , not only in China but in the USA. Its not only in fiction that these programs get out of control and what we now know about these programs is that historically they have been experimenting on unsuspecting civilians---LSD, pathogens, poisons, etc. We'll find out in a couple of years, if we should live so long--the true nature of this human experiment. It behoves us all to keep and open mind because we know we're not being told the whole truth. The only real preventative is a strong immune system---sunlight, exercise, healthy foods, habits and thoughts and stress is a destroyer of all that. The constant paranoia will be our biggest fear to overcome. I think the idea is to separate us humans of our bonds to one another so they can pick us off more easily and we can't form a revolution against them. And i don't think I'm being paranoid, just realistic, and I'm an optomist.
  25. Freedom. Not being confronted on every level with rules and authority. If you mess up its your fault and they won't step in unless someone is endangered.Never would have been able to have my restaurant in the states, i would have been strangled by regulations and licenses until i couldn't afford to exist.
