  1. Pappy, you and I probably are not "in that market".... so us not knowing what the hell 'sugaring' was is completely understandable. Maybe.
  2. Statements like this just should NOT be made on any Forum as they are obviously made from a place of no knowledge about the subject. For several YEARS people on this and other Forums have been talking about their SP experiences. How could that have been missed?
  3. Does anyone have any firsthand information..... I don't, but it is why I posted this..... that in some places (Guanajuato, Queretaro??) gringo expats are being denied access to or renewal of SP? Again, it is a question, not a statement. There are unconfirmed.... at least by MY definition of confirmed.... reports that this is happening in San Miguel area.
  4. Have not noticed before..... probably because I do not use the term.... that one cannot spell out the word I D I O T on this Board. It throws in a bunch of &*%$$%* kind of stuff. I found this out when I tried to Post: I D I O T S and liars.... with those kind of words one will gain a lot of followers and sympathizers.
  5. CG I agree about moving on from MJ. Based on what is available today that is archaic. I moved on from that years ago. Marginally decent at the time for me and provided a US contact if one was close to a router. (Yes, I know that I will get a ton of, "well mine works fine and I love it" comments. That's OK too as it is whatever floats one's boat.
  6. Such a sad sad story. Once when I was 'hanging around' Salulita and looking for a place to rent on the coast she invited me to 'come by and look at my casa'. What a nice lady and so sad to hear of her departure from our world.
  7. Although I am not doubting your word, it seems preposterous that if one looses a piece of paper (visa) that one has to vacate the country and reapply for the visa all over again. Surely there must be some other avenue available.
  8. I read it on another out-of-town Forum. That is why I asked the question and did not make a statement.
  9. The federal government just announced that they are canceling the Seguro Popular program and forming a new unified system to integrate all the different government programs. The details still aren’t clear. Anyone else see/hear this?
  10. Dr. Eloy Barragan in Mirasol, between Riberas and San Antonio, is considered by many to be the best dentist at Lakeside.
  11. ... and if one gets quite a late start from Nogales one could stop in Hermosillo at the Hotel San Sebastian.
  12. Yes, a dental student I understand. A year ago I went to Dra. Candy's office for a consultation and cleaning. Dra. Candy did the consultation and turned the cleaning over to her brother. I have never had such a poor and utterly inferior cleaning by any dentist/hygienist in my life.
  13. Except the OP is crossing at Nogales not Laredo..... that would be 500 extra miles.
  14. Also, use the Mariposa border crossing in Nogales.... just a bit to the western side... and not straight thru Nogales Mx.
  15. The good news is that one doesn't actually go thru' Culiacan any more..... several miles to the west.
  16. You are getting twice what you paid for.... your iLOX connection is sending out two Posts! 😎🤩
  17. Nogales to Navajoa and the Best Western Hotel right on the road the first night. Next day to Mazatlan and stay where you please. Next day to Lake Chapala. Remember that sunset is around 6:00 in January and one doesn't want to travel in the dark on these roads. This entire route is 4-lane cuota (toll). You can get a supply of pesos in Nogales AZ at any ATM or a casa de cambio. Expect to average around 55mph due to toll plazas. Plenty of gas stations along the way.... Magna/green pump is regular.....either the Mexican Pemex or newer private Shell, BP or the like.
  18. 'Nuf said.... https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/major-gun-battle-in-mexico-pits-security-forces-against-el-chapos-son/2019/10/17/c28d174a-f149-11e9-89eb-ec56cd414732_story.html
  19. As a 'newbie' I suspect that you have not been looking at this Forum in the past. For the last year there have been tons of Posts talking about/complaining that their modem was.... as your suggest.... crap w/respect to wifi signal strength. Decidedly worse than the Telmex. Many folks have installed routers and/or wifi signal extenders behind their iLOX modem to help. BTW, the speed/rate of any provider's service is referencing that which is achievable with an ethernet cable AT the modem and NOT the rate that might be achievable using wifi even if it is pretty close to the modem. And recall also that ALL rates are marketed as 'up to'..... hasta.... some speed.
  20. If you are truly narrowing your search to only the "City of Chapala", you will have left out all the better (by Gringo standards) dentists at Lakeside. I doubt very seriously any dentist in Chapala proper is using digital technology! If on the other hand you were actually talking about 'Chapala Lakeside" dentistry, the only practice that I know of.... but I don't necessarily know about every practice.... that is using digital technology is Dental Express in west Ajijic. Dr. Edgard Macias has brought in and is using the Cerec system to precisely 'engineer' what is being done... crown, bridge, etc..... then the 'end product' is built overnight ready for placement with precise margins the next day. About 2 years ago I had Dr. Edgard "build" a 3-tooth bridge for me when I the tooth in question could not be replaced with an Implant. 2 days later I had the 3-tooth bridge... with amazing margins and perfect occlusion. While I am not passing judgement on any other the other staff at Dental Express, I would insist that Dr. Edgard do the work for me if/when I need something similar again. Cerec:
  21. .... and then there's what the Agent at the border thinks about one's "stuff". Usually trumps the law.
  22. The Yahoo Groups platform is shutting down. No, not yahoo.com nor yahoo mail but rather the Group functionality. To many this will be a non-event. To others who belong to or use a Yahoo Groups Forum it is 'an event'. One such Forum on Yahoo Groups is the CIVIL_SMA Forum, similar to this Forum but 'all about' San Miguel de Allende. It's been announced that this Forum will be moving 'soon' to another 'groups platform' called groups.io. If you are a member of the CIVIL_SMA group you should be getting an email 'soon' announcing the change.
  23. Calling something a Newbie posted 'absurd' is probably going to qualify as a taunt or a personal attack every time. Noting to them that it is a very old thread but then trying to help would not have been taken as haughty. Many of us ole-timers sometimes don't cut much slack. Too bad IMO.
  24. A number of years ago (10?) I had upper and lower eye lid surgery in Guadalajara by Dra. Guadalupe Ortriz Salazar. Her office is/was at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Zapopan. I was/am still very pleased with the surgery and results. At the time I did some research like you are doing here. A local Ajijic resident, herself a retired Doctor from the States, had the surgery done by Dra. Ortiz after a recommendation from her Mexican Opthomologist (?). She was impressed with Dr. Ortiz and highly recommended her to me. Good luck with your search and surgery! https://www.tocdoc.com/doctor/dra-maria-guadalupe-ortiz-salazar
