  4. Thanks for the recommendation! Marco not only painted our roof but he exposed the underlying cracks and plastered them rather than just painting over them. He also applied fiberglass (?) membranes where the water flows into the downspouts and over leaky dome areas in order to fix leaks that were getting into the house. He did a great job plastering other areas too and put covers over some outlets on the roof that had been exposed since the original construction. The roof wasn't just as good as new when he was done--it was much better than when it was new!

  5. I strongly agree that if one can purchase an entire mini split system for the equivalent of $235 US that would definitely be the way to go assuming that installation could be 'simple'..

  6. I agree that if cost is a factor, a 4000 peso AC and cheaper Mexican labor to cut a whole in the wall surely beats the cost of installing a mini-split system. It would take a long time to make up the cost for the loss of efficiency of a standard window unit vs a mini-split. This of course does not address other meaningful considerations like energy conservation but that's for another 'debate'.

  7. Yes but.... there's a significant cost difference between the two.

  8. One reason you may not see many window A/C units here is because someone could easily pull the unit out from the exterior to gain entrance to your home. Not likely someone could do that with a mini split.
