LG Brand Appliances-Service issues

Just a heads up on this brand to anyone thinking of buying a new stove, fridge, washer dryer etc. If you  have any service problems with them down the road (and you will) LG has a policy of only using their own certified technicians. Despite LG being the dominant brand for sale in just about every store all over Mexico that sells appliances, LG's certified technicians are only located in major centres, like Guadalajara. Getting these technicians to come to Ajijic has proven an impossible task for me. I went through LG to get one of their certified tech's. Needless to say, after 2 weeks of multiple no shows and downright insulting treatment by LG tech service centre and LG's customer service centres.  I have called the local technicians who have told me that they can fix it, but that LG will not sell parts to them. They only provide parts to their certified technicians. It's a catch 22. So, I have decided to buy a new fridge that can be repaired locally. These brands are Whirlpool, GE, GE Profile, Mabe, IO Mabe, Maytag etc. Apparently Samsung brand also follows similar practices to LG, but please verify that first.

I should also mention that my fridge died after only 8 years of use. According to my receipt I bought it at Liverpool in late July, 2015. By all accounts it should still be under guarantee but LG denies that too after I called local technicians to come in after not getting a response from LG. Imagine 2 weeks without your fridge? I have since researched LG and it seems there are an awful lot of class action suits against them in the USA and in Canada for this exact same problem, and for the many failures with their other appliances. So this is an issue they are well aware but, despite that, they continue without any changes to their policies. This means their policies and customer service policies and practices are deliberate. So ita a matter of  be aware or be a fool, like me.

I am only writing this as a heads up to all of you to research the product reputation first and buy products that can be serviced locally. Please don't buy any LG products, no matter how nice they seem upfront. They simply do not last long, are impossible to service Lakeside, and you won't have to deal with LG's extremely poor after sales service practices. or lack of. Trust me, your blood pressure will thank you.

Sorry you have problems. We bought an LG washing machine (no agitator) in 2006  and another just like it in early 2008 for family. Have not had any problems at all with either, except, 5 years ago had a break in when not at home, and they took the first one. So, we go to Sam's and buy a new one and so far, no problems with it. Love our LG. Use it for 5 loads a week and use the cleaning cycle every 3 months. :D

Samsung customer service has been about the same for me as LG.  I learned my lesson when I allowed Camarena Appliance Repair in Ajijic to take a defective Samsung frig part to Guad to locate a replacement.  They never came back or responded after that.   I ended up buying a Whirlpool frig.

In my part of the US, it is taboo to purchase some appliances from both LG and Samsung. Refrigerators especially. As Jim B suggested, some of their product lines are OK but one just needs to do some research prior to buying.... well anything I guess!, but..... certain products.

I know for a fact that it's almost impossible to get parts for LG minisplits. The main board and fan were prone to failure. When a fan in one of my units failed again, the estimate was for a 6 week wait for parts coming from China. This was in the summer so the solution was to replace the LG units with Mirage.

A follow up story:

After LG's miserable fail at after sales service, I contacted a local repairman I found after a search on this web board. Cristobal is an electronics engineer who worked in refrigeration before starting his own appliance repair business lakeside, and yes, he fixed my fridge!!!! Total cost 850 pesos for 2 visits. He told me my model had a known defective condenser. A problem that has since been fixed with newer models. I for one have no intention of buying another LG to find out if their new condenser works. If only major appliances had recall orders like cars do!

Anyway, if you are looking for a repairman who really knows what he is doing, call Cristobal. 33 3477 8690, He is on Whats App and,  in case you have not yet mastered Spanish,  he speaks English too. A very nice guy.
