  1. Sounds GREAT! I hope they can make it work. Wonderful location! Salud, Val.
  2. Rob was such a wonderful man and great friend. My heart hurts with his lovely wife, Patsi. RIP, Rob, we miss you. With love and condolences, Val Jones

  4. After reading many positive postings about this restaurant, we went last week. We were so pleased with the cleanliness, attention to COVID precautions, GREAT salad bar and reasonable prices. We definitely will return for a more "order from the menu" dining experience. Several things sounded delicious but we were more interested in checking out the fresh options on the salad bar for our first visit. The owner, Diane (Diana) made an effort to visit each table to introduce herself and ask how the dining experience is/was. We always consider that a positive experience. She was receptive to requests and hopefully we'll see more seafood options in the future. Seems she and her staff are working smartly and gradually introducing additional menu items bit by bit. Our waitress was absolutely delightful. She mentioned she was here for vacation while her university was out on holiday and she'd be returning (on scholarship) within a couple of weeks. Thrilled to see local talent recognized, appreciated and supported by scholarship opportunities. Cheers! Val.
  5. Yea, we were out as well. FINALLY got through to their tech support number and was told that there was damage to the fiber optics cable near SJC on the Carretera and they hoped to have full repair within 5 hours. Seems it did take about that time. Grateful for their attentiveness and willingness to make the repair on a holiday weekend. Cheers, Val.
  6. So sorry to see this....LOVE Bruno's meals! I hope no one was injured and they can repair damages quickly. I agree, we'd all like to see them locate to a space with parking and open air dining but if not, we'll continue to support them with bi-monthly take-out orders. LOVE their Rib-eye, Filet, baked potatoes, salads, etc. Cheers! Val.
  7. I have plenty, LOL! Let me know if you'd be interested in a cheap, second-hand one. Instead of paying for a 2nd bag to the U.S., I've been just buying one there to fill with things to bring to Ajijic. I have hard shell and soft shell. Send me a P.M. if you'd like to come see the selection. Salud! Val.
  8. bmh, thanks, will do. There's absolutely no problem with cremation if a death occurs due to "natural causes." The problem of cremation arises if the death was due to an accident or other causes. Val
  9. bmh, I don't know the answer to your question. Dr. Leon was unaware of this new Jalisco state law and I certainly didn't know about it, either. I now need to amend my will so my remains can be repatriated to the U.S. for cremation. It's an expensive and additional step for my remaining family members to have to take but I don't see another option under the current law. Stay safe and healthy! Val.
  10. After watching a friend experience the unexpected loss of her spouse, she was told there aren't any burial plots in Ajijic nor Chapala and that Ixtluacan was the closest option. She's had to have his body embalmed, flown to the U.S. and will go from there. Apparently there's a relatively new Jalisco state law that says if a death is anything other than from "natural causes", one must bury the body for 5 years before cremation is an option. Clearly, this is very upsetting and problematic for Ex-Pats in Mexico who would like to have cremation for their loved ones. Sadly, this law doesn't spell out exceptions for victims of clear accidents. I understand when a death occurs and there could be potentially troubling circumstances but when a car/plane/ATV accident causes a death, it should be clearly noted on the death certificate and the loved ones should have freedom to have cremation done. Just my .02 worth, Val Jones
  11. I'm so sorry to read this sad news of your loss, thinking of you, sending peaceful and healing energy. Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience with others. Val Jones.
  12. I had an MRI done at the relatively new Hospital on the Libramiento in November of last year. Very professional, clean, efficient. It was for a torn meniscus in my left knee. Lasted a little over an hour and cost about $5,000 pesos. Had the test results within 24 hours to share with my local physician. I, too, am not a fan of the Hospital in San Antonio. While I haven't personally suffered from a bad experience there, several friends have. Based on their situations and experiences, if I had to choose, I'd go again to the Hospital on the Libramiento. Salud, Val
  13. Yes, same in upper Ajijic. My 3 large whole house surge protectors were clicking off and on as well as my UPS backups and surge protectors. ARGH!!! Glad for the last couple of hours, things seem to be normal again. Salud! Val :)
  14. Hi,

Can you please contact me? I have questions about solar panels for heating the pool.

    Thanks,

    Val Jones

  16. Such a wonderful, kind, intelligent and charming man. He will be missed by many. Thinking of his family during this terribly sad and difficult time. Val Jones
  17. Bruno's generally offers a delicious Prime Rib dinner on Saturday evenings. You can contact the restaurant earlier in the week to reserve your table or "to-go" order. It comes with their wonderful baked potato, sweet corn on the cob and a small salad. Over the past couple of years with the COVID situation, I've called and picked it up to bring home. It's delicious and I think the price is $300 pesos. ENJOY! Val Jones.
  18. The Federal Police report can ONLY be obtained, in person, at the singular location in Mexico City. I needed one several months ago. I went to their website, submitted information and obtained an appointment. Be sure to follow their instructions, be punctual, have ALL of the required paperwork, passport(s), and copies as indicated on the website. The actual process was well organized and I was in and out within about 30-45 minutes with the important document in my hands. It can be done in the same day with an early morning flight to DF, success with obtaining the document, and later returning to GDL. Since I needed to "certify" the document, I had to spend the night to go to a Consulate the following day. There's a nice Hotel just around the corner from the Federal building where you get this document. Had good service at a fair price. Send me a PM, if you want the name of the Hotel. In my case, neither the Jalisco state nor Mexico State criminal history report would suffice. The Federal Police report was required. Good luck with your project. Val Jones
  19. Sadly, yes. I have enjoyed wonderful seafood from them for many years. Val
  20. Saw my regular guy from the wonderful seafood shop on the west side of Ajijic but he was waving me into the seafood shop on the Carretera between Colon and Juarez. He told me they'd closed the seafood shop west of town and he'd started working at the one in Ajijic. While talking with him, I mentioned we planned to make some sushi rolls this weekend and I normally bought smoked eel from his old place. Asked the current guy but he said he couldn't get it. Anyone know if I can find some smoked eel, locally? I know where I can get it in GDL but not worth the drive just for that. Sorry to learn that seafood shop west of Ajijic has closed, it was my favorite. Thanks, in advance. Val.
  21. MtnMama, Great recipe! I'll keep it for when I am not so pressed for time. I had been delayed in holiday menu preparations by some pressing issues that took priority or I would have taken the time just to make the pie crust. I appreciate the recipe and the info. about the other options and will be better prepared for future holiday celebrations. Just one of the GREAT things about this web board. Stay safe and healthy everyone, Happy Holidays, Val.
  22. LOL, thanks dichosalocura.....the young lady dug around but only found apple pies in the freezer. Perhaps I should have tried to search further. The crust I used from Walmart for my southern Chocolate Chess pies wasn't great so we just ate the pie ingredients and left the crust, LOL. Many thanks to oregontochapala for the reference to Williams Burg pies. I'll put this in my cell phone for future use. Hope everyone had a pleasant, fun and safe American Thanksgiving! Val.
