  1. OK I went to Intercam and they acknowledged that the withholding rate on interest is 1.45%. so why are they taking out 49%?. No answer. I was told I had to email customer service and ask them. Obviously I was not happy being told it's my problem, and it showed. On my way home I got a cellphone call to tell me that they would investigate on my behalf. That's a little better. In the mean time I've looked through my statements for all of this year, and their take varied from 10 to 50%. Don't seem to correlate with anything. I'll post if I get an answer. In the mean time, Intercam customers, check your statements.
  2. That's strange. When I tried it they told me that I had to use a number in my name from a registered cellphone network provider i.e one that provides you with a SIM card. So MMDV
  3. You can resolve this in one of two ways. If you have a relative in the US who doesn't mind helping, give CO their number, then have your relative immediately send the number to you with WhatsApp. Our you can get a Consumer Cellular account for $20/mo. It will receive texts here. It will need to be initialized in the US. In my case, I got my daughter to buy the CC burner in Target, then send it to me. From personal experience, both work.
  4. I'm just saying that is what was deducted. I'm going to the bank tomorrow to investigate.
  5. So I guess I'll go to the bank and ask them why they are taking over 40%
  6. All I know is that on my statement, it lists interest credit, followed by ISR deduction. There most recent one worked out at 49%, but last month it was about 41%. No I don't file taxes in Mexico.
  7. What is the tax rate on interest in Mexican banks? Sr. Google says 30% but I'm showing 49%.
  8. With Telmex fiber, you also get VOIP for your voice.
  9. Well all I can say is that I regularly get 20,000 from Multiva ATMs
  10. I regularly get $20,000 pesos from the Multiva ATMs. This makes the transaction fee negligible. I find it's the cheapest/easiest way to move cash from my US account to my Intercam account. Get the cash at the Multiva ATM, the walk down the street and deposit it at Intercam.
  11. We've had Telmex fiber for several months. My experience has been that it's very reliable, and the voice connection quality is far better than it was with the copper wires.
  12. I have Telmex fiber connection and I am very happy. I am getting exactly what I pay for; 50 down and 20 up. And a clear reliable phone service. Do lots of streaming and torrents. No problem.
  13. You can use WhatsApp to 33 1520 9621. It's only answered Monday through Friday, but I've found it to be very responsive, and much easier to converse in Spanish.
  14. Any recommendations for a good professional electrician? I want to install a transfer switch for my generator. TIA
  15. Gualberto Real 331 026 5450
  16. I had one done a year ago at the Ajijic clinic. Dr Corona and his team from Guadalajara. Can't remember the cost, but I think it was around 10,000 pesos.
  17. You only need an appointment to transfer title of a car. I believe it's just walk in for other things. When I was there last week it was basically empty.
  18. Does anyone know if the Chapala licensing office is open? I need to transfer ownership of a car. TIA
  19. Just to add to the confusion; I've used S&S for more than 10 years. They always send me competing quotes for renewal, and the few times I've done a comparison, they have always been competitive. I've had major claims, and their follow up and support have been great. Just a couple of notes for the original poster; deductibles here are a percentage of the CAR VALUE, not the repair bill. Also, there is no such thing as a loyalty discount, so you can switch companies every year if you wish.
  20. Unfortunately the 5MHz band is less useful in Mexico since it does not penetrate our steel/cement walls as well as 2.4MHz.
  21. Power cord? Phone cord? Ethernet cord? I have a Vonage adapter that I'm no longer using, but I think the adapter is locked to my old Vonage number. Is this right?
