Has anyone imported a camper van?

I see there are a lot of bargains for camper vans, in the States, at the moment. Better deals than in Canada. I am thinking of buying a GMC and importing it to Mexico. Anyone done such a thing? I will check with a broker, but thought I would see if anyone has experience with importing a conversion van or camper van.

If you could bring it in with a 10 year permit as an RV, that would probably be a much better and cheaper way to go. A small Class C could definitely be brought in this way. Looks like van conversions can be too.

What kind of RV and motorhome type of vehicles are eligible to receive a Mexican temporary import permit good for 10 years?

RV temporary import permits are granted for motorhomes or fully converted vans. Pick-up trucks with slide in campers are not eligible for 10 year permits.

Might the 10 year be affected by the new visa situation? Forced to go permanent and a US plated car

That is my concern. I would just buy one in Mexico if I could figure out if there is someplace that sells them. Have not found anything on the internet, though a lot of companies that can customize commercial vans so they could do the work. If they can convert a commercial van into a mobile taco stand, they can put in a bed and airconditioner. I know people who have imported the 15 passenger type of van from the US to Mexico, and I am hoping its the same process.
