Jeanneb2000
I really like barley but haven't seen it here. I want to make lamb and barley stew but also calls for rutabagas (good luck there) Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
Natasha
It's at SuperLake in the bulk bagged area at the back -- look for "cebada perla" or sometimes written "cevada perla". Might find it in Surtidor. I buy it at Abastos in Guad when buying all kinds of other staples. You will never see rutabaga here unless someone at the organic market is successful in trying it. I was not when I had a garden. -- one of the prices you have to pay for living in paradise!
jkgourmet
Im not a ruatbaga fan - but I do like parsnips. Which are readily available down there. I've substituted them successfully in recipes several times, using less parsnips than rutabegars.
HelperGuy
I've found the odd undersize parsnip at the "organic" market, but nowhere else here or in Guadalajara. Where did you find yours?
Shelley Ronnfeldt
Not sure how this thread moved from barley to parsnips, but I've purchased barley at the grain store next to Gossips, across from Ajijic Clinic.

Where did you find yours? I could have sworn I bought some last summer at the tiangi on Wednesday. Love those things roasted with olive oil, pepper and sea salt.
