  1. I hope he tangles with someone who puts him in his place. He's a disgrace to disabled vets and parents of gay children. I am both so am doubly offended.
  2. Yeah Rick I do think you're right. It looked like he crossed it out but now I see he just likes a really long right side of the "Y". Gracias
  3. Actually I think he wrote "gal" and then crossed it out. He is sensitive to sexual bad behavior but not normal human behavior. Guess he didn't want to be called sexist.
  4. The person whose garage was blocked was much more polite than I would have been. Just east of maskaras there is a garage door with the sign "Se Ponchen Llantas Gratis". That may not be perfect Spanish but I never saw anyone dare park there. A good ice pick to back up that threat would be a wise investment. I could care less how disabled someone is, parking in front of a driveway is never acceptable. OK, if there was a trail of blood leading to a hospital I might consider an exception. Some people just feel entitled and if it were me, I would have that person's placa memorized for future use. If you want to be a little more subtle, order these stickers to slap on an offending vehicle. Applied properly they are a bugger to scrape off. Probably would never pull that again in front of your driveway. https://www.amazon.com/10-VIOLATION-PARKING-Sticker-stickers/dp/B012Y809OM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1510945330&sr=8-2&keywords=no+parking+stickers+hard+to+r PS If you "broke his handle" good for you.
  5. Went to dinner with 2 snowbird couples staying at our BnB some years ago. We went to Tony's and both other couples had exactly the same orders. The bill came and one was 1 peso less than the other when totaled up. "Hey, how can this be, you charged us more than them"? The quick thinking waiter grabbed both checks, stared at them, and then raised the one up a peso to be even. I tried but could not contain my mirth. The snowbirds did not have the ability to also laugh like heck at what was obviously a big ado about nothing.
  6. Haha, are you well acquainted with this fine looking establishment Angus? Do you and Pedro grapple there?
  7. Good advice Angus. Reminds me of the sign where we used to park to go to the Guad flower market: Picture of a rat with the notice "Cuidado, ratas con dos patas".
  8. I would take a taxi over and avoid the hassle, otherwise cruise and look. Monday, yes.
  9. Yeah, I just followed the instructions that came with my router and connected it to the telmex router with an ethernet cable and bang, it was connected and it had internet. I'm starting to wonder if your Telmex router is different than mine because it would seem any old router connected via ethernet with my Telmex one would work. Telmex router is "Technicolor" and I have an ethernet cable plugged into one of its yellow ports and then into the only blue port on my TP Link.
  10. The username and password are almost always admin, admin. Have you tried that on your router?
  11. I have no idea what "bridge mode" is but I just just connected my Archer C7 with an ethernet cable (Thanks CG, today I remember the correct name) and all the little electrons that come to my Telmex modem flow right through. Then added a VPN to that router and all devices in my house are now connected to New York or Dallas or LA whichever is best.
  12. Yeah, for at least some of us that very fact is part of the reason we used to love lakeside but have decided we no longer feel the same way. Puerto Vallarta may be hot, humid, overrun with tourists on some days, but there are very few foreigners trying to change things to their liking, no golf carts (but I have seen a couple of tuk tuks) and the Transitos have never tried to shake me down, not once. They do do enforcement in numbers once in a while but if you have a current registration and have your seatbelt on, they smile and say sorry, have a nice day. They don't even ask to see your license or proof of insurance. Foreign plates, and you are RP? No problem, they have a "program" for those folks too. $1000 the first year and $500 thereafter keeps you out of any "local" trouble. Stay away from the airport and the federales. To each his own.
  13. Makes no difference if any of us likes it or not. If the gummint says they are not legal then you operate one on public roads at your own peril. And if you happen to do something unexpected and make somebody crap themselves you can expect vigilante justice to swiftly take place.
  14. A very astute comment! Although........in Mexico everything of that nature is usually done in efectivo so more difficult to follow the trail.......unless you use marked bills to ensnare the recipient, LOL.
  15. SOME (ahem) have Mexican drivers licenses and have never taken a test of any kind. You won't find any official literature on how that is done, but........
  16. Been shaking down folks for as long as I can remember.
  17. Stay on the back streets, drive carefully and cheerfully, wave pedestrians across with a smile..............and make sure you have some small bills easily accessible, Christmas isn't that far away (at least according to Costco).
  18. Or possibly a realization that providing the necessary bandwidth to those who must be constantly streaming video on their phones is not helpful in keeping down costs for the "average" customer. We avoid all-inclusive resorts for a similar reason: there are simply way too many people making sure they get "their money's worth". Many of our lakeside friends used to come down to the beach on those Thanksgiving trips. Most if not all have quit that, citing exactly that reason. Next time you're in an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant take a look at the size of the average patron and notice how many trips they make, LOL. Then just be glad you're not stuck in the middle seat between 2 of them on a plane......or maybe you have been!
  19. All very true. You have studied the rules carefully and know what you're doing. To the "average" buyer or seller my advice would still be the same: Don't do it. Yes, I would probably sell my car to you as you have established a reputation for honesty. I probably would not sell it to anyone else. I would definitely not buy one in Mexico for the reasons you listed, especially the difficulty obtaining a new title and plates unless I had a residence in Texas. I presume South Dakota, specifically Clay County could solve that problem but as you pointed out, takes time. To the average Gringo, don't get involved in that kind of transaction.
  20. It is illegal for anyone to sell you an imported car here in Mexico. When you got the TIP you promised not to do that. The car must be removed and the transaction must take place in the US or Canada. Then, as you say, you can import it yourself since the owner must (should) cancel his own TIP upon leaving. Do yourself a big favor and don't even think about buying a US car here. Do yourself an even bigger favor and don't even bring one in if you intend to live here. Lots of Mexican plated cars for sale and you'll be glad you did.
  21. Our Doc in Ajijic told us many years ago that generally the strength of the sting is related to how long ago they had their last kill. The longer the time the more severe the sting. Makes sense but who knows? Have never seen one here in PV. (Knocks on wood)
  22. Geez, OK, OK you win if the Pillsbury Bake-Off is the Gold standard. I yield to your expertise. I don't enter Chili Cookoffs or Bake-a-Thons and yes, of course you meant to quibble, haha. I guess if you don't grill a USDA Prime rib eye you are grilling a substitute. So the question really is: is a homemade substitute better than going without? We report, you decide. Saludos
