nothernewbie
Never heard of this until your post and now am lusting after it. If you find it locally, please let us know. If not, this might help, There is a product called "Wet & Forget" which uses this stuff as the active ingredient and it works extremely well The downside is that it costs anywhere from $30 to $60 per gallon A cheaper and DIY method is to purchase HTH Algae Guard from Walmart or Ace Hardware {probably other places too} for between $5 and $10 per gallon {usually around $7} There are different varieties but they are aglaecides meant for pool treatments and this HTH product contains 10% benzalkonium chloride exactly like the "Wet & Forget" so you dilute in exactly the same way 5 to 1 or basically you make a 2% solution for application. To round off the mixture I add 1 or 2 ounces of Fabuloso to each gallon diluted for application. The fabuloso is a surfactant like soap but doesn't need to be rinsed off.The trick for applying this stuff is choosing a cool humid but not raining time where you can saturate the treated areas and the molds/algae/etc. can absorb the chemicals ... so cool evenings are ideal or early mornings where the liquid wont dry too quickly. Ideally you want a few hours of dampness. So if you want to make yer own just remember you want to generate a 2% solution and add some type of non-residue leaving surfactant ... this is a wetting agent so that the chemicals can spread and penetrate. If you don't mind forking out a little extra money then by all means go for the "Wet & Forget" ... it's a good product
