lakelove
I read on this thread that the restaurant had closed. On another forum, I read that they were on vacation. Anyone know the facts?
RVGRINGO
Is there a sign on the door? They posted previously to thank customers for their patronage and to say that they closed because of immigration irregularities with their Thai chef. Fred Habacht
The sign is very much still there...but closed for renovations; on vacation, or relocating to a new secret location...ala Thors...seems to have been used before!
RVGRINGO
The translation for all of those terms seems to be, “We are history“.
suegarn
I looked at the sign on the door today, and it still says they are closed due to immigration issues with the chef.
Travelercat
THey are very much OPEN. We have been twice in the last seven days. Please go there! Tonight there were only three tables of guests. The rumor that they are history needs to be squelched!
Xena
Travelercat, this thread is about Taste of Thai in the plaza on the liberamento where Lake Taco and the Car Wash are. Are you perhaps talking about Simply Thai in Ajijic?

Xena
As I said on the other thread. You are not the first person to confuse the two restaurants.
joco69
Had lunch at the place December 30th and the server told us that they would close the next day, Dec.31st. The cook was not happy with his pay (participation on revenue) and decided to return to Thailand where he makes more money.

One would think that if someone were going to open a restaurant based around a chef they would make sure the chef has the papers to work here and/or pay the chef enough to keep him. I'm sad because I really liked Taste of Thai.

I'm sad because I really liked Taste of Thai. I too am sad because we loved Taste of Thai, but judging by attendance whenever we went, it was obvious it would not last. Rents are high and Parking is limited, not a good place for a restaurant.
Xena
I would agree with you, Joco, except there is Lake Taco which has a very successful restaurant in that very location. There is something more to Taste of Thai's lack of success than the place and the parking
nomames
Lake Taco also has a car wash. I'd never go if they weren't washing my car at the same time.
Xena
There are a whole lot of people who eat regularly at Lake Taco who have never had their car washed there.
