  1. Maybe this will help. I looked under Immigration and Customs topic but could not find where this months (week) exchange rate was for passport checks. Assistance: U.S. Consulate General, Guadalajara Within Mexico: 334-624-2102 From the United States: 1-844-528-6611 ACSGDL@state.gov The article I started above also said if you want the peso fees for the month your paperwork is presented to the consulate, send an email to pifernr@gmail.com who is the consulate volunteer representative at lakeside.
  2. I think more are coming than leaving. There was a billboard in the states that said "Don't come to Ajijic, we are full" :-))
  3. Requip has not been available here for years.
  4. I have read in LCS articles and the Reporter you can call the consulate when you are ready to get your passport and they will tell you how much the check should be.
  5. Clopazapam works for RLS. You can buy it over-the-counter.
  6. Instructions manual (if you get one) will most likely be all in Spanish. Also you have to pay duty and 16% IVA tax on all imported products.
  7. MSN keeps having an ad for this Super Boost Wi Fi speed device in Mexico. Has anyone heard of this? It says it will boost your wi fi speed from 8.5 to 32.2. You have to order it on line and they are offering a 50% discount now so the price is $49.99. You can plug this device into any electrical outlet in the house and it will increase wi fi through concrete walls or any room in the house including upstairs. I don't know if this is a really good device or a scam. Anyone heard of this device? web site is techdiscountdeals.com

  9. In previous publications Mexico has said 10 digit calling will start Aug. 3. All numbers called in Mexico will be 10 digits including the area code and phone number. This means the 01 for long distance and 044, 045 from a land line to a cell phone.. There was no mention about it in Aug. 2 Guadalajara Reporter, so if it goes as stated, lakeside numbers will be 10 digits like 376-xxx-xxxx. We will see.
  10. Interesting. I never get a message from Telmex on my cell phone I only get messages from Telcel. How do you get a telmex from your telephone line on your cell phone which is a not a cell phone company.
  11. An article in the Conecciones magazine said the U.S. Consulate is making their services easier for lakeside residents. They still do not accept personal checks or cash or credit cards, but a move has been made to ease the process of getting cashier checks. Peso denomination cashier checks at the rate set monthly by the American Embassy in Mex City will now accept cashier checks from Banamex, Bancomer, HSBC, Banorte, Santander and ScotiaBank It also says (which I don't quite get) U.S. dollar cashier checks based on the listed dollar fees can be purchased at Bancomer, Banamex, Santander, Intercam, Order Express, USPS or any U.S. bank within 90 days of presentation You can check the current peso rate at Lake Chapala Society front desk, American Legion or Chapala.com web board under the customs and Immigration section. The information is generally posted the Friday before their second Wednesday visit each month to the lake. The Conecciones magazine is available at many business locations at lakeside. The article is on page 5 of agosto edition.
