Sopa Azteca ingredients: tomato guy?

Salvadore at Tio Domingo once regaled me on the ingredients in tortilla soup that would make it genuine. I completely forget the special herb/plant, but in reviewing the recipe from Lorraine Russo of La Nueva Posada, I see one ingredient listed as tomato guy (Saladeta). Anybody know what this is?

Here's Lorraine's recipe in English:

Here's Lorraine's recipe in Spanish:

The Spanish version calls for jitomate chico (saladet). Saladet refers to plum tomatoes.

And while Lorraine's recipes don't mention epazote, I agree with the Walkers that many Sopa de Azteca recipes do include epazote.
