  1. No, I'm looking at possibly late Fall or early Winter of 2024.
  2. Some good informative replies here, but after consideration, the option of working through Spencer's office to have someone purchase your vehicle and remove it from MX (back to the US in my case) seems to be the best option and then use the proceeds to buy a MX plated vehicle. Best that way IMO as it's legally been removed from MX. You might lose a bit of money on the deal vs. a local sale but at least you don't have to be concerned that this may become a legal issue in the future. If the new owner gets into a serious accident where lives are lost or serious injuries occur, can you be held legally liable as it wasn't legally removed from MX by yourself? People have repeatedly stated buying a Jalisco-plated vehicle. Can you buy a car from somewhere else in MX (Mercado Libre comes to mind- a big selection) and then just register it in Jalisco? Or would this likely be a major PITA for someone on a residente temporal visa?
  3. Is it somehow possible (or at all feasible) to buy or sell a US plated car locally? Or must the owner first drive the car out of Mexico and have their importado sticker removed? If so, would it simply be more prudent to buy a Mexican-plated car? I assume you'd need a residente temporal or permanente visa status to be able to purchase a Mexican plated car?
  4. I had a feeling that might be the case and thinking about it further we'd probably have to fly back once a year to visit with our primary care provider to get our meds renewed for another year. I know I see mine every August to discuss my lab results from the week prior and to get my meds renewed. (and to discuss any current medical issues)
  5. FYI- To live there, possibly in the future. To collect information to write a book, definately not. To use urologists in Mexico because healthcare is totally unaffordable for me in the US , hence the questions about the cost of specialists there. I'm seeking useful information from an information forum before spending the money for an airfare and an extended stay away from my family to possibly receive what will likely be unpleasant medical treatment for a chronic condition that's plagued my life for two years. I might be able to afford it there and would appreciate helpful advice in this matter from knowlegeable persons.
  6. No, I simply forgot I had posted it last year. Looks like 800-1,200 pesos with average wait times from 7-10 days. Is the cost/ average wait time still pretty much the same as Aug. 2022?
  7. Great to hear, thank you. I'll check out Ishop. When you next speak with your friend, please ask what it costs to have his/her meds shipped to Lakeside.
  8. I 'm fairly sure VA cannot mail medications outside of the US but is it possible to get your meds mailed to a PO box (such as Mailbox Plus, et al) and driven down from the border along with your other mail/packages? Or are VA meds something you must leave behind after moving to Mexico?
  9. I suppose a workaround all of this would be to live in Jocotepec but it doesn't have nearly as many of the Gringo amenities as the greater Ajijic area. So less chaotic traffic-wise with fewer amenities. Is that an accurate assessment?
  10. So one can expect to sit in long lines of traffic on the careterra most of the time unless it's fairly early in the mornings? Is that pretty much an accurate assessment? Driving from west Ajijic to Chapala can easily take an hour or more at certain times? I'm trying to visualize this scenario as it absolutely did not exist when I lived there full time.
  11. About $186 USD , so pretty much the same Lakeside as the US pricewise. Well, at least with year round warm weather they'll likely last a very long time. Our battery was purchased in Oct. 2014 and lasted until Sept. 2023 (one month shy of 9 years) in New Mexico.
  12. No can do anymore. I remember my 70s Volvos and some VWs with the 5 mile per hour bumpers (with the shock absorbers) and the big rubber bumper pads. Now a parking lot fender bender can cost thousands.
  13. It sounds like it's downright chaotic a lot of the time. Opinions? That said, I suppose chaotic is a subjective term (like was the cantaloupe sweet or is it cold today). Chaotic has different meanings to different people, I suppose.
  14. Just out of curiosity, what did a new battery cost at Escalera? I recently had to buy one NOB and the absolute cheapest I could find was a 3 yr. battery that cost about $150 USD. Lowest was $150 to $275. That's more than II paid for some of the cars I owned in high school and college.
  15. That's good, but depending on how old your battery is and how much of that time was spent in Mexico (vs. a colder environment NOB) could well be an indicator that it may be time to consider a new battery as it might be at or nearing the end of its service life. I just went through the same thing with my battery. I wound up having to replace it. Did they electronically test the battery? If not, get it tested (usually free or pretty cheap) Then you'll know what you have to do. Buena suerte.
  16. Has anyone had this done locally by a urologist?
  17. How do you pay for healthcare services? Insurance? IMSS? Out of pocket? Are prescription drugs mostly paid for out of pocket?
  18. Specifically, BP meds and statins (but not limited to these). Which places have the best prices without sacrificing quality?
  19. Are there any animal control officers and/or licensing and rabies-distemper vaccination requirements now?
  20. Actually, it was Lloyds/Actinver then. Is transferring from a US account to a Mexican account like you do probably the most efficient way to do this? Do they issue you a debit card and can you make debit purchases and cash withdrawals either from an atm or in person from Lloyds Bank? (probably somewhat safer than the atms).
  21. A somewhat lengthy 3 or 4 step process when we lived there, but a safe one (then, anyway). Do any of you still use this method or has it since been replaced with more efficient ways?
  22. It surely was when we lived there a few years ago. Lots of strays, lots of barking issues everywhere we lived with very little recourse. Is it still pretty much the same now?
