  1. Here is how it works at Costco.

I had an a Dorada membership. It cost me 500 pesos each year. You can have one additional person-cost to m 250 pesos. The additional person was a Mexican from Zapopan. He decided several years ago that things at Costco were too expensive so he quit using it. He prefers to shop at local tianguis, etc.

A few months ago Costco changed my membership to Ejecutiva which costs me 1,100 per year. I did not ask for it they just did (to get me to buy more?). I can add up to 3 people to the membership. Each one added costs me 250.  With Ejecutiva I get 2 % of purchase for the year. This is taken off the price of the membership up to a maximum of 7,500 pesos.

I spend about 25,000 per year at Costco I think. 2 % of this is 500 pesos. So I am paying 100 pesos per year more for this membership. If I drop the Mexican off my membership and add someone else my membership will cost 1,100 + 250 = 1,350.

-If I had another person on the membership who bought 10,000 per year I would get 700 pesos off my membership = 400 pesos. So I would be paying 950 (400 more than if I was alone on the membership).

-If the other person bought 15,000 per year I would get 800 of my membership=300.

    - If the other person on the membership bought 20,000 per year I would get 900 off my membership=200 pesos.

So I have several choices; revert to a Doarada membership (if they will let me) and have no second person on my card. My membership would be 500 with no rebate.

Etc. It is early in the morning I hope this makes sense and I hope my brain is in the right gear.

  2. When I first came here 8 years ago there were all kinds of quatromotos in Jocotepec. Now they are rare?
  3. A crackdown on motor cycles might be more productive. I've never had a problem with a golf cart but motorcycles many times.
  4. So I got Seguro Popular today (it took about several hours to cancel IMSS first, then about 20 minutes to get SP down the street in Jocotepec. Does anyone know the phone number to get the ambulance from the Seguro Popular (Comunitario) hospital in El Chante? The only number they have on their handout is an 800 number.
  5. I never told them I was in IMSS. He asked if I had IMSS and I said no. After he got on the computer he figured out from something he saw that I had had IMSS.
  6. Thanks for the offer but I know what I have to do. First wait for hours outside the IMSS office on Monday to get the constancia and then go to the SP office.
  7. I gave up on El Chante. They said to go to the office in Jocotepec. We did and they said they could not give me Seguro Popular as they said there was no record of me cancelling IMSS even though I did not renew this year and my facilitator said she had cancelled my IMSS. So the guy said go to the IMSS office in Jocotepec and get a constancia de Baja del IMSS. I did but they were closed for some reason today. So back there Monday. Patience testing.
  8. It is a pain for me to go to Chapala. For me it should be much easier at El Chante.
  9. So we went to the Seguro Popular hospital on Tuesday to apply and Claudia (the gal who signs you up) said we could not apply that day as the internet was down and we should go to Chapala or Jocotepec or come back in a few days. Yesterday she said there was a problem with foreigners as they don't have two surnames. Today she say come back in two weeks as they are having a problem with the program. Am I getting a round around?
  10. This is al very interesting but a bit confusing. I hope when the time comes that we need different Shaw equipment someone will post it in simple terms for simple people like me.
  11. So yesterday we went to the Seguro Popular hospital in El Chante to apply for Seguro Popular. Everything was as described as above except the internet was down so the lady said to come back in a few days or go to Chapala or Jocotepc. Access is so difficult at Chapala & Jocotepec we will go back to El Chante. Thanks again for all the help.
  12. People have been reporting for quite awhile that people from Chapala/Jocotepec can't renew in Ocotlan in spite of it being a state thing.
  13. I forgot about them. I did buy a 630 from them after mine got fried by lightening. So much more expensive.
  14. Lots of good information here. I dread that one day my Shaw will no longer give me the channels I want. I have a HD PVR 630 which I use all the time. My DSR 505 died last year and can't be repaired here. When I have guests they use a DSR 317. Who know how long my two receivers will work? I would like to buy a 830 but I don't know how I can. I have a Canadian address but I never leave Mexico.
  15. Here is a change for you then. I have had my 630 for 4 years and it is an excellent receiver.
  16. Thanks again. I guess you have to be prepared for anything. I know a guy that did it here and after registering with a local doctor he also had to go to Guadalajara to register with the hospital there in case he needed to use that hospital at some point.
  17. One more question if I may. Once you have done the paperwork at the SP hospital in El Chante do you need to register with a Doctor at a clinic near you. (In my case it would be San Juan Cosala probably).
  18. Thanks for all the information except for this bit; MAO (Affiliation and Orientation Module). What/where is that?
  19. What about for first time application-not renewal?
