Arjay
My friend found this bug on her patio yesterday. It looks like a leopard-bee but doesn't appear to have any wings. Any idea what it is? I wonder if it's dangerous.
ajijicbound
Looks like a yellow velvet ant which is actually a wasp. Only males have wings. http://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=Yellow-Velvet-Ant
Cookie
If it is a Velvet Ant...stay far far away. We have the red variety here...truly beautiful.... but they call it "cow killer" because the sting is so painful.

Cookie
They're not fast and they're not interested in you...but if you pick them up...be prepared to howl. The first one I ever saw was a red velvet...and they really are pretty. We put it in a jar. They told me it was a red velvet ant but I figured something else was going on... when it got angry it buzzed.
