Mad_Max
I just finished reading The Food Revolution by John Robbins - it's 10 years old and has recently been republished. Although I have tried to stay a little bit on top of this stuff, I still learned a lot - although some things are out of date and have changed. Still, a very good read. One section is called Regulatory Agencies out to Lunch - speaks for itself. He did spend some time on Monsanto - so I did look up how Mexico was doing with GMO's - and as a year ago, the project seemed stalled - http://www.naturalne...o_GMO_corn.html So hopefully that is still the case. And I was amazed at the difference in European Laws and the US. Maybe disgusted is a better description. In his book, he also included an analysis of soy from Monsanto's seeds and non GMO's - a very significant difference. And, if you want non-GMO soy, look for that on the package. (I was able to find non GMO tofu easily at Lakeside) And yes, our produce comes from all over - and nothing labeled. Sad. In the book, he also focuses on the animal industry in the US. And that is sad too. He has a new book coming out in April - No Happy Cows http://www.amazon.co...28548914&sr=1-1 And I have found that I enjoy books like this with pictures when I have the physical book - instead of an e-reader - as the Food Revolution is a thick book and good has good reference material - Delivery time from Amazon has improved lately - this one was delivered in about 3 weeks. And if what you eat interests you, I encourage to you read the Food Revolution. His figures are out of date - for example, US corn eaten by people is 2 percent, US corn eaten by livestock is 77% - so those figures have changed - and I would guess a significant part of the Corn crop has changed to GMO Soy - but the point he makes, that more corn is eaten by livestock than humans is still valid. Here is the link from Amazon - http://www.amazon.co...=pd_sim_sbs_b_1 But then the movies mentioned are really that current either - Food Inc was produced in 2008 - Monsanto Inc was written in 2008 also. So am looking forward to No Happy Cows for more current info.
