Casa de Molcajetes - Chapala

A textbook example of the inconsistencies in Lakeside dining. Last week, we enjoyed a standard Molcajetes Mixto at Casa de Molcajetes. Best we've ever had - meat and shrimp were perfectly cooked and tender, cheese bubbling over the sides, and the sauce was tastier than we've ever had.

Last night, we wanted to compare this with the molcajetes at Guicho (the place on the corner), which was closed (Friday night at 8PM and closed? huh?). Anyway, we went back to Casa de Molcajetes without hesitation, but with guests this time, promising a good introduction to molcajetes. Sadly, what appeared at our table was an overcooked mess, even looked unappetizing. Bland taste, tough meat and shrimp.

Service was also about the least friendly we have received in Lakeside.

Interestingly, we watched at the kitchen of Casa de Molcajetes kept sending out platters of food to the restaurant on the pier. We've always heard this place had lousy food (and the salsa's we've sampled while enjoying margarita's and the views were unremarkable.) We asked about the food leaving the kitchen for the restaurant, and were told that the two restaurants shared a kitchen. Strange and we wondered if this happens every night of the week. If not, that might explain the inconsistencies. Or not. Who knows.
