I know her....she is a WalStupid employee...her job is  to maintain "casual" flow at checkouts...she also leaves her cart in the middle of a parking spot and then has been instructed to back her car out, very slowly.....and then repeat the entire activity....her name is Megan Swingleheimer and she has lived here 22 years and is still leaning her first Spanish word....."banola." Her husband is the man that yells  ...."wash." Although he doesn't wash anything.

Fred why do you put your self through the agony of visiting Ajijic and Wally mart. You out of town folks only add to the congestion and we don't need more complainers

Happened again today at Walmart. A lady in front of me fills the conveyor belt with a cart full of merchandise, watches it being scanned in and loaded into her cart and only after the cashier tells her the total does she begin retrieving her purse and fumbling for her wallet. She then proceeded to laboriously count out the exact change down to the peso.

Wonder how long before I get there?

My wife sends her apologies for the delay, I keep telling her to Just walk out without paying

If you were not so much into your little world , you  would understand that the Mexican legal system came from Europe   that is the connection.. we have notaries there like Mexico does... France and Germany influenced the Mexican legal system, England did not... Obviously you do not know much about the differnt cultures  and have a tunnel vision. Notarios are important people.. and even in countries where corruption is less prevalent , things happen.

    • OMG..The King and Queen of UK cancel a visit to France. Why the 10th day of mass protest over a controversial pension reform Union leaders have been urging President Emmanuel Macron to “hit pause” on plans to raise the legal retirement age in France from 62 to 64.
    • France like many other European countries has certain virtues and qualities of life but winning wars is not one of them. Whilst America did not win World War 1or II alone ....without the United States the wars against Axis fascism would have been lost
    • In 2022 over 35,000 illegal immigrants left the French paradise for the UK, and the numbers continue to increase..

Your friend is obligated by law as, their employer, to enroll them in teh social security system of Mexico.  Then they will receive medical coverage and retirement benefits.

You're friend will bear the expense as their employer. They do not need to be a company to do so.

If you're friend needs halp then he should contact an accountant to halp with teh process,

What if you engage them with a contract that sets out the specific details of the work, no benefits, etc. but an attractive package? Again talk with an attorney.

You'd has alot better off to go to "El Pechugón"......... angled corner window near Mia's (and the now defunct Ajijic pawn shop).      IMO Dusty Chicken is always a little overcooked, where El Pechugón are on a rotisserie, not a grill, and much juicier.  And close to your home too!

Natasha why bother making this comment, nobody asked your opinion and every one tastes are different, besides Ken is older and smarter than you and even has a chauffeur to take him for his chicken, now that is class

I too broke my shoulder and was told replacement surgery was necessary. I also got a 2nd opinion, have been doing physical therapy and have gained nearly full mobility. Please get a second and maybe a third opinion before you proceed.

I am amazed at  the number of posters on this forum that have "amazing " experience s

  8. For any meaningful continuity, you need to go back to the same place. If you are happy with the facilities then stick with it and reduce any variances between results. I use a small hole-in-the-wall lab that was in Chapala on Cinco de Mayo, but then moved a few blocks north. For Xrays I use the SAH

me wonder if teh developers who lied about teh hight actually built teh underpinnings for 7 stories or for 2 or 3. When teh cracks start to show teh developers will be long gone and we'll be left wif a big half sold eyesore blocking people's views. Just a thought.

My dear NMM, how nice to know that you have "concern" for the quality and safety of the buyers. But since you have no responsibility,  solution or involvement with the development don't worry, just sit back and enjoy your Golden Years.

Please, every morning, look in your mirror and... repeat....The Serenity Prayer...." TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE, THE COURAGE TO CHANGE  THE THINGS I CAN, AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE".......God Bless You

I did not know bingo was illegal,

I recall many years ago the American Legion was doing a successful Bingo and the "Authorities" came by and shut down the operation. Maybe they did not have a "License" if indeed that was necessary. Times change.  Possibly Traderspoc can share his experience?????

Ken with respect, selling drugs is also illegal...But, a few blocks from where you live and walk, on Donato Guerra any time of the day or night you can make a purchase but you being a man of the world and Ajijic resident probably were aware of this "industry"???

i hope you have a clause in your contract , that if they exceed a certain time period they start paying you interest.

I know client that has that had a clause in the building next to coca cola, after 2 years to pay 10% interest. the owner chose to give the money back to client instead of payig 10% interest after two year or more delay.

also are you on maybe on federal land,  theres a lot of land fill that was going out to federal land years ago.

Do they have the right permits, for the filled in area facing the lake., wherethe garden and painted boats are.

They filled in the area where the pilcian used to hang out.

I hope you are still alive and in good health when they finish the project.

I know several ethical real estate agents will not sell anyone a property in building, until its fully built and funded.  most buildings are under funded and need buyers to build them.

My friend, why do you care a sh*T?. Its totally amazing what extra time folks have on their hands ....How many times have people questioned your BINGO are the attendees going to an illegal game??

I believe that the local law allows only 2 story buildings.  With a variance,  they were ok'd to build three stories.  When the building reached 7 stories, progress was stopped and they had to tear off the top 2 stories down to 5 as a compromise.  Some compromise!  Newbies will probably be OK with the building but the rest of us residents and the Mexicans are NOT happy about the building at all.

With respect we/you/I all have opinions  about what Ajijic is, was, and the future. For the majority of you who have posted do not get to vote...just whine whine whine. You whine about Walmart, you whine about Omar, The Radisson Bue hi rise, you whine about the traffic, you whine about Telmex, the restaurant on the pier, the seats on the malacon, The Mexican mail, etc etc etc.

Ajijic lost its charm many many years ago when the first Gringos "found" the place, latter it became a Gringo ghetto when the last Mexican village house was sold for under $40,000usd (1990's) and a couple of Gringo speculators were busy remodeling the properties (1 couple are still around to day).

Many of you are carry the "luggage" and "guilt" from NOB, you whine about the USA government, but never refuse  your SS checks . Fortunately most of us were not Refugees, we came here on our own freewill, attracted by the Climate, Cost of living and Cultural...and able to move on if we so desire.

Lets face reality , abuse of land regulation at lakeside  has gone on for "ever" , its part of the "Culture" . A case in point is the encroachment of the many Mexican owned stores/business on the Cararretera. And YO 1 for your information most of the owners at Nimue are Mexicans......PEACE

  15. We have bought an apartment there and the scheduled completion is OCTOBER 23. The first tower has been completed we are in the 2nd tower. We think the location and amenities will be first class. The construction was slowed because of the availability of skilled labor. The initial design was 7 floors high but compromised to 5 to satisfy the "Protests".

Absolutely do not need to pay anyone.

They are very friendly and helpful at the Chapala immigration office.  Stop in and they will help you with everything and step you through the final process,

If you are going to live in Mexico you need to learn to handle simple things yourself.  It's easy.

I think Lou covered both options. if you're up to wasting your time  working your way through the MX bureaucratic go for it, been there done that.. now I I prefer to use my time better than hanging around and think using a facilitator the preferred option.

When I think back to the hours I spent at the IMSS, driving license office, immigration office, etc etc plus the time going and coming it adds up to hundreds, thousand of hours.. most Mexicans are happy doing this, but it's not for me

  17. MexLus I very much appreciate you sharing your medical experiences. Like auto mechanics, sadly there is always going to some doctors more experienced than others. I can only speak from limited experience with a couple of  local primary care and specialists at QC and found them very good. Before the 2 new hospitals were built I always had a "great" experience with Ajijic Clinic.

Before Covid I frequently  visited Guadalajara to seek out specialist, the pool there is significantly bigger..and dare I say "better", like wise the selection of hospitals , from the very basic to tier one's, but frankly the distance to and from Guad seems to but getting longer and more of a challenge as one gets older. Like wise I think age gives one a different prospective on good or bad local medical experiences.

Recently I was visiting Florida and had the misfortune to fall and fractured a vertebrae. Fortunately I am fully covered by insurance and the whole experience was "clinically" smooth. Where one in Mexico may have "problems" communicating with the nurses and aides, the same applies in Miami where 80-90% of the staff are from Haiti or Central America!, so brush up on your French and Spanish. My  primary care in Miami is with Chen Medical, which I can only describe "wonderful", one of the first questions you are asked is what kind of doctor do you wish to talk to, Spanish, Russian, English ...so much is the ethnic  diversity in Miami. Another bonus, we are collected and returned to the clinic by free Uber! and once at the clinic you can enjoy "free" water, fruits and coffee etc, its amazing. Many many years ago Miami was "all" Yiddish speaking .........now believe me, English is a second langue to Spanish!!

Health Care world wide is in crisis, the Covid epidemic crushed  most health care systems, from which recovery has been a challenge. In conclusion ,if possible seek out doctors/hospitals in Guadalajara. The USA system is "good" but is powered by Greed and Profit. Its no fun getting old.
