  1. Seguro Popular encourages membership including residents with a visa. Although some states only allow PR to join.

The last time I checked expats who own property pay property taxes. They also buy many items with IVA including clothes,  utilities, gasoline and much more. Sadly, in Mexico about half the population lives in poverty and usually pays less tax (practically zero) vs most expats as I noted.

I too have questioned how those who have an issue with ACA (so called socialized medicine) in the US would apply for IMSS or SP.

  2. Seguro Popular and ISSSTE in 8 states are now rolled in to IMSS and every 6 months anther 8 states will be added. Now is the time to join SP. IMSS which currently has a much higher fee of 6000 to 9000 pesos per year, denies coverage to those with pre-existing conditions and does not provide full coverage until year three. What happens after Seguro Popular joins IMSS I do not know but I encourage people if they want this healthcare to enrol with Seguro Popular now and have 3 years of known cost and requirements.

We are still receiving complaints about people paying to nationalize vehicles and getting fake papers or no papers at all, a "law" firm in Ajijic charging $3,000US and then says sorry we cant do it and not returning money.

    Agree totally.

If anyone offers to nationalize a vehicle and the process is to be completed within days and / or it includes state plates including EdoMex the process has a 100% chance of being illegal. If you want to check out such a process go and ask your local SAT / Aduana office if it is legal.

There is no process available today that allows one to nationalize a vehicle already in Mexico.

  4. 2009 and 2010, NAFTA made, at Laredo, ~$3000 US

There is no other legal process today.

AMLO our president-elect has signed an agreement with UCD stating he will be allowing nationalizing cars and a motion is already before the Deputies. We do not know the timing. The notice has been published in Milenio.

  5. I recommend to my clients to go twice, once when they submit their visa application to INM and again when visa is issued. I give them all the requirements and exact location.

Even when one does it 100% correct for some reason there can be issues. I sometimes wonder if these arise more with those who pay cash. The staff at Aduana when you are leaving say you lost your deposit when in fact the employees keep it.

  6. Three days in Laredo for a 2009 or 2010 NAFTA made vehicle with prices starting at $2500 US.

  7. 1. SP computers will tell then if you are with IMSS or ISSSTE. It is not a matter of why did you tell them. Plus the law states you can only belong to one of these providers.

    2. The national computer system was down for a few days as they updated it. Once updated they discovered when an expat applies with a TR or PR visa that portion of the program had issues. Mexican nationals have been able to apply since Monday.

    3. As of approx. 4 months ago, at least in GTO state all applicants with a TR or PR visa now pay at least something. My clients are typically paying 1100 to 1500 pesos / person for 1 year of coverage.

    4. When one pays, membership is only for 1 year, requiring annual renewals.

    5. SP has a lower cost that IMSS; it does not ask about pre-existuing conditions which with IMSS usually precludes joining; coverage is 100%  from day one vs. IMSS.

  8. If one can leave with a 10 year TIP then what is the difference in leaving without your vehicle which has  a 180 day TIP?

Pls do not quote Steve to me geesh that is that last person I would believe except for what he copies from my web site. And when he says he talked to some one where are their names and contact info as I post?

Anyone who has the question can call Carlos and ask the law and rationale vs debating at length myths and misinformation.
