Harry, one doesn't 'register to vote'.  Once a person has Mexican citizenship, the person needs to go to the nearest INE office (there's one in Jocotepec) to apply for a credencial--a national photo identification card that is the ID needed in order to vote and to identify oneself as a Mexican citizen.  Mexican citizens are asked to show that ID many more times than one might think and it's important to carry it with us at all times.  Usually one goes to the INE to apply for it and then returns approximately 2 weeks later to pick it up.  In order to apply, one needs to take the Acta de Naturalización and a comprobante de domicilio to the INE.

There's no charge for the credencial, and no party affiliation is involved.

Semantics - getting your INE card is registering to vote.

  2. I was under the impression DIF cards were a thing of the past and that INAPAM is the one to have.   Always have been problems with no blank cards, including INAPAM.   I seem to remember it took months for them to get new cards so I asked for their phone number  and called until they were in then hurried down on the Thursday , then the only day for cards, and had no problems.   Don't take any of these delays personally, it's just the way it is.

  3. Is it possible that you have two things going on?   First is to design your garden, second to find a gardener.   Someone the other day was telling me Chapala Tree Service did landscaping.   I have used Cuca at the nursery in Riberas around the satellite office, carretera, lake side.  Her daughter speaks english.   You might ask either of them to recommend a gardener for you to keep up their creation.

I know that this has been covered before but I would like some updated information on the pros and cons of going solar.  I would like the names of the best companies to deal with either here or in Guadalajara (if they would consider installation Lakeside) and it would be nice to hear the good, the bad and the ugly of your experience with Solar and solar companies.

Pros -- reduced or eliminate bi-monthly CFE payments.   Cons - if you can't afford the start up expense.   Read the experience of the posters and I think you will find anyone that's been lakeside longer than heartbeat will tell you E2 Engergies (Bettina's the contact person) and E-Sun Energy.  Find out what products they have available and google reviews of them.  Also, talk to them.   Ask them point blank questions.   I'd go with the person who answered my questions clearly and frankly -- not the one who blabbered on for 20 minutes and couldn't give me a direct answer.    And as to my experience -- exactly what El Salto said.

I think your attorney is wrong and what does the law in Mexico have to do with laws in the U.S.?

Real guns are not sold on Mercardolibre, Amazon MX and hardware stores because that is illegal. Tasers, stun guns, BB guns, and Air Rifles can be sold because they are not lethal weapons. Please post the law that says non-lethal weapons are illegal.

Interesting  Joco, where did you get your law degree?   Yes they can be sold, no one disputed that.   Can they be carried is, as I said, the question and which I answered.

  6. sorry Nothrn, I don't know how to do it just that they are asking for the INE card which is only for citizens of Mexico.   Many people here have said they've used Mercadolibre or Amazon Mexico so I'm sure they can help.

I promised to reveal my attorney's thoughts on the matter of the legality of tasers.   They, TASERS,  are illegal as ambconsultants opined, to carry and to do so they, my attorney, would have me go to the military to register and seek a permit to carry.   As amconsultant also said it depends on who stops you and who the Commandante is indicating a local interpretation.

A WEAPON IS HERE AS WELL AS THE US OR CANADA IS:

    1. anything designed to be used as a weapon;
    2. anything that a person uses as a weapon, whether that thing is designed as a weapon or not; and
    3. anything that one intends to use as a weapon regardless of its design.

the American Civil Liberties Union in Connecticut issued a news release about 4 years ago calling for new legislation to regulate the use of Tasers by law enforcement. According to ACLU staff attorney David McGuire the man’s death shows a pattern going back nearly a decade of Taser-related deaths.

And for you-all who are not understanding -- a TASER shoots a projectile  -- the legal Stun Gun does not but does make the noise to which dogs tend to react with some trepidation.

  7. Thanks Joco, I did not know that.   I was thinking of the next step which is to carry a concealed weapon.   While not lethal it is still a weapon.   Have sent the info to my attorney and awaiting reply.   Also from my experience with tazers to make a noise you need to pull the trigger which sends the projectile.   I know people seem to think stun guns are tazers so it does get a little confusing for my old mind.

  8. Good luck finding your car.  Obviously you can do it all yourself.   I thought Wookie and Cartero answered what you asked and you chose to impart there were as many good as bad experiences.  You chose to say you had a friend who was ripped off.   So why'd you bother asking anyone's opinion when you are so well versed?   Frankly, I'd call you on that as few with any time lakeside have anything but good to say about them.

  9. I don't mean to sound like a smart ### but it's kinda like buying a house next to an airport then complaining about the flyovers. I know that sounds flippant but it really is the realty of Mexico. There is an expression relating to the lifestyle here..........para ruidosos, los españoles................'There's nobody like the Spaniards for being noisy'. Yeah there may be a law but enforcing it is another matter.
