...and Mexico THANKS you for making that move.

That's not a nice remark Natasha, and I am sure you do not speak for Mexico.

Why is it people have to be so confrontation when someone ( who seems to have better credentials than you or me) share an experience.

Actually I recently experience a fractured T11 vertebrae while in Florida, I did not have the "luxury" of whom to choose. Fortunate the procedure and rehab was very satisfactory. The cost for the hospital surgery was $62,000, which was fully covered by my Humana Gold Card.

Incidentally I did get the impression that my surgeon "was God" or one of his disciples!!

Having Quality Care, San Antonio Hospital, Riberas  and several primary care physicians, I think getting second or third opinions would be helpful. Maybe a little pricey but often worthwhile. Also helpful to do some research ( although that doesn't guarantee competency)

I have been here quite awhile and use to take Blood Pressures at LCS. I heard all kinds of stories. I love Dr. L, I hate Dr.L....I love Dr G., wouldn't send my dog there to Dr G. and the beat goes on. Sometimes the issues are serious, others are just unhappy because the doctor doesn't smile.

So it isn't always easy here.

Not sure why I can't receive pm but would like to see your reasons

I can't change your message settings.  You show "can't receive messages" when I tried to send a test.  This is in your settings or your message box could be full.  Open your full message box and see what it tells you.

If there is a problem with your message box, I can't fix.  You'll have to PM Admin Chapala for that.

Sadly, this is the norm: Misdiagnosis.  Intentionally being misled for unwarranted surgery.  Inexperienced surgeons.

Pets: Everything from Veterinary. Ladron misdiagnosed our dog with Kidney Disease), leading to a good two years worth of the dog chowing on Kidney treatment dog food, only to come to the USA and be informed our dog never had Kidney Disease.  He had another major issue that was quickly remedied, and then went on to recovery from the poor diet prescribe by that vet.

Human family member:  Our pockets were deep (we encouraged all test and review with Quality Care at the helm) but they missed diagnosing cancer.  Cancer went undiagnosed until later stage, when we happened to be in the USA and did a second review of all.

Why did we trust the doctors?  For exactly the same reason as others here have stated.  We were told the medical care was so wonderful.  We foolishly believed this.  After the fact we met several (3) other expats who had late stage cancer that the doctors missed diagnosing in Mexico.

If we had it to do again, we would have moved to Mexico, but returned to the USA for reviews.  Shame that the expats are so, what is the word... blindly raving about the excellent medical care for it truly flavors the choices we made.  We lost one dog, and one of us will end up paying the ultimate price for that false belief.

Go north of the border for your medical care.   We'd be on top of the world right now had someone had advised us to do so.

MexLus I very much appreciate you sharing your medical experiences. Like auto mechanics, sadly there is always going to some doctors more experienced than others. I can only speak from limited experience with a couple of  local primary care and specialists at QC and found them very good. Before the 2 new hospitals were built I always had a "great" experience with Ajijic Clinic.

Before Covid I frequently  visited Guadalajara to seek out specialist, the pool there is significantly bigger..and dare I say "better", like wise the selection of hospitals , from the very basic to tier one's, but frankly the distance to and from Guad seems to but getting longer and more of a challenge as one gets older. Like wise I think age gives one a different prospective on good or bad local medical experiences.

Recently I was visiting Florida and had the misfortune to fall and fractured a vertebrae. Fortunately I am fully covered by insurance and the whole experience was "clinically" smooth. Where one in Mexico may have "problems" communicating with the nurses and aides, the same applies in Miami where 80-90% of the staff are from Haiti or Central America!, so brush up on your French and Spanish. My  primary care in Miami is with Chen Medical, which I can only describe "wonderful", one of the first questions you are asked is what kind of doctor do you wish to talk to, Spanish, Russian, English ...so much is the ethnic  diversity in Miami. Another bonus, we are collected and returned to the clinic by free Uber! and once at the clinic you can enjoy "free" water, fruits and coffee etc, its amazing. Many many years ago Miami was "all" Yiddish speaking .........now believe me, English is a second langue to Spanish!!

Health Care world wide is in crisis, the Covid epidemic crushed  most health care systems, from which recovery has been a challenge. In conclusion ,if possible seek out doctors/hospitals in Guadalajara. The USA system is "good" but is powered by Greed and Profit. Its no fun getting old.

FWIW, with a cancer diagnosis in the US, we also had GNP insurance  in Mexico who had one of the top oncologist/hematologists in Jalisco in their network.  I forget his credentials but it was something like President of the Council of Hematologists in Jalisco.  Exact same diagnosis and exact same treatment protocol as the US.   Our Gold Plan BCBS policy in the US required that we wait until Stage 3 for treatment.  Got cancer, good luck with that

Due diligence on your part and luck is your friend when it comes to health care here or there.
