Curmudgeon
Can anyone update me on the process/requirements for renewing my US passport locally? Do they still do it at LCS, or the Legion? TIA
ibarra
It is my understanding that U.S. passports can only be renewed online and sent to embassy in GDL to be processed. Perhaps this can be confirmed by others on this Board. https://mx.usembassy.gov/passports/u-s-passport-renewal-by-mail/
chapalence
All done online. Follow the directions on the site Ibarra listed and pay the reasonable fee to have it sent from Guadalajara by FedEx. No more Legion or LCS visits since this was implemented.

mikechapala
I just did the renewal: process is really easy. fill out form online. pay fee. Send per Fedex the old passport with documents to consulate in Guadalajara (including Fedex pre paid shipment for the way back to you. I received my new passport within 2 weeks. rvanparys
Information provided above is spot on... Easy but time of return will vary... It took about 4 weeks for mine to come back... FYI: The FedEx office in Ajijic does not sell the return labels... I used I mail and that worked...
sm1mex
Ishop will send and receive your passport back and will call you. When I did it several months ago 630 pesos to FedEx Guadalajara and back here. Can pay iShop with a credit card.
NEWMtnMama
The Embassy has stopped the online application process as of the first part of March. Has anyone heard if they are going to be at LCS or the Legion to renew passports? I only need a Passport card, but if I have to go to Guad to renew I will spend almost as much on taxis as I will for the unneeded passport book. GRRRR

If you are in a hurry look into paying the extra fee for expedited service.
