Carnivore
CLOSE FRIENDS ARE SOON LEAVING FROM CALGARY TO DRIVE TO THEIR HOME IN AJIJIC FOR THE WINTER. ON THEIR LAST TRIP HERE 3 YEARS AGO THEY TOOK A ROUTE THAT HAD THEM CROSS INTO MEXICO AT THE COLUMBIA CROSSING IN TEXAS. THEY'VE SINCE BEEN TOLD THAT THEIR PREVIOUS ROUTE IS NO LONGER THE SAFEST AND, OF COURSE IT'S NOT EXACTLY THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FROM RECENT PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU
Mostlylost
Enter every time in Laredo at daylight in 20 years never a problem. Now you are on the first tollway in just a few minutes.
Jim Bowie
Same as Mostly, but been doing it since 1997. Never a problem, and we never use toll roads until Saltillo By-Pass.
RickS
Pretty much any route that stays mostly on toll roads is going to be as safe, in any given moment, as any other. And driving all the way from Calgary to Ajijic, 1 extra hour to come through Laredo is hardly going to be a blip on their travels.
Kiko
We say in Mexico, "No dejes camino Real por vereda" Do not leave the main road for a path.
