happyjillin
what happened to my thread about getting a whole house generator.
ibarra
I looked for it too after that other person said they couldn't find it. I thought you must have deleted it as you found the generator that met your needs. I thought the moderators just closed posts, didn't realize they would actually delete one. chapalence
At the same time, they deleted one by a new user, "Generac", who posted as a Generac dealer.

happyjillin
As well as looking after me live a little longer if there is a black out, I tried to help others in the same boat. 4
Wefferr2
Happyjillin I was looking to follow up on the further adventures of your generator hunt. but couldn't find it either.
happyjillin
It's getting installed manana and the last 2 days they've been putting in all the wiring. I am hugely impressed. I guess the mods don't like helpful live saving info. I am on oxygen 24/7. No oxy=death. I am not ready for that yet. pedro kertesz
Ferret
Okay. This is the short version. Pedro wanted to go with a whole house generator that was operated by an alternative fuel and he chose propane. Propane, unlike gasoline, does not go bad. There are two brands of whole house generators available. One is Briggs and Stratton while the other is Generac. My friends at the other end of the lake chose a Generac 7.5 kwh which was recommended to them for their needs by a company in Guadalajara. A company that has only two service technicians to cover a large chunk of Mexico. My friends 7.5 unit failed... and the replacement also failed all while under warranty. They have been without backup power for over six months. They were told by the service tech that 30 to 40% of that particular unit fail but that they have had no problems with the 10 kwh unit. On the other hand, Tingting's unit from Briggs and Stratton has functioned perfectly for the last 10 years with annual maintenance. Pedro has gone with a 10 kwh Generac but is using an installer recommended by Mike Merryman. Mike is very well connected, trustworthy and honourable. These units need no help from the homeowner since they automatically sense a power disruption and switch over before the clock on your microwave can even start flashing. In cases, like Pedro's, where the need for an oxygen machine (or any other medical assisting equipment) is life saving, these units are invaluable. What is missing from the above version are all the links to information. Google is your friend. 4
hkrause
Are these generators noisy when running, like a gas-powered unit would be? If the B&S unit has been so reliable, why would one choose the Generac... features? price?

Orygun Duck
Shocked?? Really, Pedro? Perhaps "electrified" is more apt. Seriously. Thanks for the valuable info.

happyjillin
So the Generac tech came yesterday to inspect the work and set it to test and and then ready it for use remotely, and everything passed as correct. it will kick in for 3 minutes every Sat. am to charge the battery which runs the cooling fan and yes the generator is noisy running, if you're sitting near it but not so much upstairs says esposa. They are water proof so you can have it installed anywhere. I played sidewalk superintendent during the whole installation and was highly impressed with the crews work. This is not my first rodeo when it comes to observing and even consulting with some high tech clients in pneumatics and hydraulics in a past life. Not every tom, dick or harry can do a job like this and there is a reason that Generac is the unit of choice in Canada and the US. Adrian is the expert supreme!!!!!! 2

Tingting
Glad to hear you had a happy experience. I honestly didn't want one when we first got here because I couldn't see the need. Now, having lived here for 17 years of who-know-how-many power outages, it's been a godsend and has paid for itself many times over.
happyjillin
WHOOPEE! About a 1 minute brown out and the Generac came on, what seemed like instantly and shut of as soon as CFE came back on.
