Mainecoons
Not for like grilling burgers, for like cooking in casseroles and the like. The burger meat at WalMart used to suffice but they have really downgraded the quality. Tried El Torito and it seemed to have some bone in it. Where are you finding good burger meat both for cooking in casseroles as noted and for grilling burgers? Thanks
Ferret
I don't know about butchers close to you but Tony's, just west of SuperLake, will take any round steak, cut the fat off it and then mix the fat according to the percent ratio you want... 100% lean is kinda dry but 85% is perfect for most things like burgers, spaghetti sauce, lasagna etc. I totally agree with your assessment of Walmart's ground beef. It all seems to be the same now no matter what the price and it's all a mushy mess. 1
happyjillin
We get our ground beef burger at any of the butchers at the Chapala Mercado any way we want it. For spaghetti we get the hot loose Italian sausage meat from Berlin-yum!
Ferret
I also like the Hot Italian Berlin Sausage. If I slice and dice one sausage when frozen and add it to the spaghetti sauce, it's perfect for a one person serving.

rafterbr
From the Chapala plaza about two or 3 blocks north is a small butcher shop which has great ground beef (hamburger). Some of the best tasting I've had lakeside.
MtnMama
I get ground sirloin from Maria Elaina at the Tuesday Market. Best tasting I have found anywhere. Comes from free-range cows butchered at their family ranch.

I don't pay a lot of attention to the price. I get a fair sized bag for around 100 pesos. It makes 3 meals of hamburger in casserole.
mexijims1
We get our hamburger meat from Tony's in SAT. We ask for hamburguesa sin grasa. What they give you is ground sirloin. About $165 p/ kilo. 1
