From yours and other's posts here I now know the basic difference between good and bad gas systems. Too bad they don't just pipe in natural gas like in Canada, as it would save a lot of "messing around". By that I'm expressing my great frustration as to how some things are done down here, but of course there are many good things too. The negative: "tomorrow" is a word I'm beginning to greatly dislike. "Go with the flow, amigo, that's how it works down here". I don't think so, as it's just an excuse for ineptitude type thinking. I still haven't got my gas delivered. It's a long story of ineptitude I don't wish to go into, but it's the same theme as all the other long stories involved in getting things done here. Quite disappointing. Could this "tomorrow" attitude be one of the causes of poverty? At the very least I'd say it must be a major contributor to it. Well, that and the seemingly comfortable attitude most here seem to have with deception. But, that's all a different topic. My "good man" landlord, who promised to install a washing machine when I moved in a month ago, but then a few days ago said he had no money and could I "lend" me the money for one, and I'll pay you back next month", (I said no), who now gets free wifi from me, and who seldom seems to fulfill anything he promises when he says he will, if at all, and who often seems to have the phone number of "friends" who don't deliver when they say they will. It's all very disappointing, and confirms to me why there are so many poor people here. Forgive this gringo for being taught to "say what you mean, and mean what you say", and to be a responsible person, instead of a flake that cannot be trusted to deliver. Forgive me if I don't try to take advantage of every little situation for my own benefit -- financial and otherwise. Forgive me if I don't believe in a little deception or "little white lies that hurt nobody". Should a reasonable person just laugh it off and accept all this nonsense? Of course not, as to do so is just giving in to all the nonsensical excuses. I might have to politely put up with it, but I'll never accept it as unchangeable. So, now I have an appointment with a different gas company who actually answered their phone (landlord's friend didn't) and who actually said they'd call me when they get here tomorrow at 3pm (I'm hard of hearing). Will it work out to be true, or will my long rant above be proven to be justified, and not just another gringo who likes to rant negative about everything instead of just "chilling out". Oh, and now I'm only going to put in 700-800 pesos, after I look at the gas gauge tomorrow and confirm that's all I'll need until mid April. If I run out of gas I'll just laugh it off and "chill". At least my landlord won't get any free gas off me like he intended when he told me "2000 pesos should fill it up about half way". 😉 Query: "why do people who've only known you for a day, or who rent a suite to you sincerely think/believe it's not "slimy" behaviour to ask you to lend them money?

Ferret
Not all landlords are the same any more than all people are the same. I think you've got a dud. Yes, it leaves a sour taste in your mouth but you learn from the experience. Natural gas is not a good idea in a location that is prone to tremors. That would be this area. It is also one of the reasons why gas pipes in the floor develop leaks. That happened to us when we lived in La Huerta and were filling a 300 litre tank every four months. We had a GREAT landlord who wasted no time in re-routing the pipes over the roof. When I bought this little house, I was tickled pink that the pipes had already been re-routed over the roof. One less problem with which to deal. Keep reading the forums and ask questions. The list of whom you deal with will get shorter and/or evolve. Take a deep breath. You'll be fine. CADmn
Thanks Ferret. Yes, not much problems with earthquakes in Canada, plus no shortage of gas -- just need to poke another hole in the ground and voila, but mostly in BC, Alberta, and some in Saskatchewan. It's not me I'm concerned about. Even in Canada few people under 60 say what they mean and mean what they say. But, in Mexico, I've met enough people here to understand that a greater proportion of people here, compared to Canada, feel it's perfectly acceptable to deceive others, especially when money is involved. And those who don't do it as much just laugh it off -- like it's an acceptable part of their culture. 1 hour ago, Ferret said: The list of whom you deal with will get shorter and/or evolve. Take a deep breath. You'll be fine. So, I know I'll be fine. This is nothing compared to stress I've endured in the past in Canada. It's not stressful at all to endure this type of pervasive and culturally accepted dishonesty down here -- it's just real sad, because I know it holds them back from true success. Anybody with true knowledge/wisdom knows that reputation is more important than short-term financial gain. I can live anywhere. It doesn't have to be Mexico. Mexico was just the closest, and my first place as a snowbird. Maybe once I try other places I'll end up back here simply because it's better than the others, and it's closer to home -- and it's warm in the winter. So, with a deep breath, and a shake of my head, I'll just say "it's very sad". 1
Mainecoons
Through experience we have learned to investigate and ask the long timers about who to use and where to find stuff. This board has been invaluable in that regard. You really have to sort suppliers and workmen before you buy. Gives us old retired folks something to do.

Mainecoons
So glad we installed an on demand water heater. Drastically cut our consumption. Standard style hot water heaters available in Mexico are pretty inefficient.
Ferret
Yes and one of the reasons is because they are outside. However, in general, it's dumb and expensive to keep a whole lot of water constantly heated. I LOVE my instant, on demand hot water heater. CADmn
I'm obviously doing something wrong. No hablo Espanol. 4 times Millenium said they'd come over last 12 days or so, and still no gas. It ran out. I last cooked on Thursday afternoon, but yesterday when I turned stove on there was nothing. Maybe there is a leak. Had water failure this week also, and it just came back yesterday. I'm very frustrated. I'll just put food/meat in freezer and go to American legion for food today (if they're open). I'll check out Zgas if they're here in Chapala. Maybe I should stand out on the street and just flag down a passing gas truck 😉
CADmn
Isac gas failed to show for their appointment today, so I called my bilingual Uber driver out of desperation. My approximate two week ordeal is finally over. He had Gas Rosa come within the hour. I used the opportunity to go on the roof with them. I took pics of tank and gauge. Turns out landlord had mistaken % for kilograms on guage. The tank is 300 liters per label on side. Rosa charged me $12.87/liter. I was so frustrated with landlord I only put in 54 liters which filled the empty tank to 15%. If I run out before mid April I'll then know my exact usage average which should be helpful for future rentals. So sick of gas related issues. But Bosch water heater fired right up simply by turning on the shower tap, so no lighting pilot light was necessary. I'm amazed at the minute amount of gas that Ferret says she consumes: A 180 liter tank lasts 4 years. That is amazing. Slightly confused though as Ferret initially said her new tank was only 2 years old.

That's the first gas delivery since I installed the tank and put 1,000 pesos in it to start. My pipes run over my roof, I have an on demand heater and I cook every day using my gas stove. That 100 litres (1350 pesos) will probably last me another two years.

The previous fill in the brand new 180 litre tank was on December 17th, 2017 and it was 9.99 pesos per litre. Not double in that time frame. So, Ferret, Dec 17, 2019 then, and not 2017? Ferret
I see the problem... In the quote above, I should have said "A" previous fill instead of "THE" previous fill. I was trying to show that, in the time frame between those two dates, the price had not doubled and that was all. For your edification: 1) Filled (aka to 85% from zero) brand new 180 litre tank on December 17th, 2017 2) Topped up to 85% again on May 13th, 2018 3) Topped up to 85% again on December 31st, 2019. Then I started asking for 100 litres exactly to see how long it lasted. 4) 100 litres on October 10th, 2020 when the tank was down to 25% full 5) 100 litres on December 10th, 2021 when the tank was down to 20% My conclusions are that it is not necessary to fill my tank to 85% and that I use approximately 100 litres per year. One person household with NO pilot lights constantly burning. I also have a tinaco and tend to shower in the evening. So the water is also "pre-warmed" sitting in the tinaco all day. In May and June, I don't even use hot water in the shower since it's just comfortable the way it comes out of the tinaco. Every single house and set up and usage is different. bmh
I paid 12.87 a liter this Friday so a whole.20 more than what is quoted here.. Wow let lose sleep over that one!! My maid buys bottles and if you check the price it is 24.. more pesos a liter or basically double per.liter of what I pay.. The poor people who buy by the bottle are the lnes being screwed not the lnes buting at 12.87.. I know it is more costly to deliver and exchange the bottles for the gas bottlebut that is a major diference. If you want any hope of being happy here, do not sweat the small stuff .
