Floradude
They are not common down here. We have other similar plants.
cedros
Wisteria does not grow well here.
Ferret
The Mexican equivalent does grow well. Just wish I could remember what it's called. It looks like wisteria flowers but they are slightly smaller in size and they dry nicely on the vine. Sort of looks like dried hydrangea blooms when dried but sized slightly smaller than the wisteria.
Ferret
Found it... petrea volubilis - Search with Google I had one of these in our entrance garden in San Pancho. Loved it!

"Queen's wreath (Petrea volubilis) is a stunning tropical vine that resembles wisteria with its drooping lavender flowers. You may know this vine by one of its other common names: Petrea, purple wreath, or sandpaper vine.
dichosalocura
The main difference is that petrea volubilis is not fragrant at all. I saw wisteria seeds for sell on mercado libre and even the plants too. You could try wisteria here and then report back to us how well it is growing. cedros
I grew both Wisteria and Queen's Wreath in my gardens. But one garden was in British Columbia and the other in Jalisco. They look similar from a distance but Wisteria is in the Legume family and Queen's Wreath is in the Buckwheat family

bmh
I know someone who has a beautiful wisteria in Comitan CHiapas where the climate is similar to the climate here so it grows but then the woman who is growing it is a gardening nut and I have not seen any wisteria out side of this one. Ferret
In a perfect world, it would look like Wisteria, grow fast like Petrea and smell like Lilac.
bmh
It grows well in France and is really invasive there.. so there is no perfect world..

bmh
Yes I think it does better when it is cold in the winter and they go dormant. Then the springs and summers are beautiful
Joco
It grows here. The price for one on Mercadolibre has doubled but maybe that is because we are moving into winter. In the spring the sellers have blooming wisteria. https://hogar.mercadolibre.com.mx/jardin-aire-libre/wisteria_NoIndex_True#applied_filter_id%3Dcategory%26applied_filter_name%3DCategorías%26applied_filter_order%3D4%26applied_value_id%3DMLM1621%26applied_value_name%3DJardín+y+Aire+Libre%26applied_value_order%3D5%26applied_value_results%3D65%26is_custom%3Dfalse
