JKL
Can't find any new news on status of onions contaminated with salmonella. Does anyone know if onions are now safe to eat once again. Sure miss them!!!
Floradude
That was reported in the USA a couple of weeks ago. I have not heard anything about down here. I suppose you could wash them if you are worried.
happyjillin
Because it happened in the US[I don't care] doesn't mean it happened here where I haven't ever had to stop eating onions in over 15 years. Never bother washing them, just peel the outer layer is what I do. So relax and enjoy your onions.
Bisbee Gal
No idea if these onions that were grown in Chihuahua were sold here. They are infected with salmonella. Washing with water won't kill salmonella. Cooking onions to a high temperature will kill salmonella. Not clear if colloidal silver products like Microdyne will kill 100% of salmonella...maybe some has better info on that. I have not stopped buying or eating onions here and have survived. But I do use Microdyne on any veg or fruit if eating it raw. I have had a few serious infections over the years, some from food, some not. I am just one of those people who need to be more careful as I have had a few scares with my body not responding to antibiotics that usually work quickly for others. And yucalandia's musings on anything ain't worth giving shrift to.

It's not old news....this from 2 days ago, https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/nation-world/whole-onions-salmonella-outbreak-chihuahua-mexico/507-ee3cb9e9-87b9-4513-aff4-573f43a27f7c#:~:text=The number of people sickened, for Disease Control said Tuesday.&text=The CDC said Tuesday that,red%2C white and yellow onions. And as I said, I have no idea if these onions were sold here or not. Do you know they weren't, for a fact? In the US, there are far more food safety regs, the CDC publishes recalls, etc. May be some standards here, but wouldn't count on being informed about issues quickly. 1

Lo siento for my brain freeze misreading the date. The link is US and the problem is there and me and my friends bodies tells us that we are just fine. I would be highly susceptible to such a thing if it was here. I can't tolerate antibiotics for any reason. What proof is there that the problem originated in Chihauhau, in any event.
