ladner
Since we sadly lost Polo from LCS, can anyone recommend a local audiologist?
gringal
On TOB, a poster reported that there is one with the Chapala Med group in the plaza near Tio Sam's. Another one is reported to be within the buildings where the San Antonio Hospital is located.

sm1mex
I think Quality Care has one. Call. 332-785-0259. If no answer keep trying. They are very busy.
Lexy
I appreciate these recommendations. Tony Burton says his wife highly recommends Dr. Carlos Alonso Flores. As usual, before making an appointment with a new doctor, I searched online for more info. I was pleased to see Dr. Flores is an authority on age-related hearing loss--and on Oticon hearing aids. It's unusual to see a doctor showing an association to a certain brand and I'm wondering if Tony's wife can tell us more--that is, might Dr. Flores be inclined to prescribe Oticon hearing aids over all others. Lexy
I checked at San Antonio Hospital and receptionist say it has no audiologist there. QC and medical clinic of SA Hospital were closed at the time, so don't know about these two. Lexy

Lexy My wife is Gwen Chan Burton, author of "New Worlds for the Deaf" ( a history of the Lakeside School for the Deaf, as it was then known, in Jocotepec in the 1980s). She was director of the school for many years and has worked with hearing aids for more than forty years. It is not at all unusual for audiologists operating their own clinics to have a close association with a particular brand. Oticon, based in Denmark, is one of the world's top brands in terms of research, manufacturing, quality and reliability. Quite rightly, Dr Flores - who by the way speaks fluent English - is completely up front in his advertising about the brand he works with, unlike many of his competitors. If you do decide to see Dr. Flores, please report back how it goes. 2
Michael Turner
I just purchased a hearing aid from Doctor Carlos Alonso Flores. His contact information is in one of the above posts. Although I did purchase Oticon his first suggestion was not Oticon but a model that had all the features I requested - rechargeable batteries and Blue Tooth. The reason I choose an Oticon model was because it had 48 channels to work with for optimum tuning. The highly optioned other brand he had suggested had 8 channels to work with. When I received the hearing aids Doctor Carlos made an appointment for one week later to answer any questions I might have. I currently have the level one hearing aid setting. The change to level two and three are each 60 days apart. The appointment for level two has been set. I am very pleased with the Doctor Carlos, the service and quality of product I purchased. 2

Mainecoons
Polo was very good at repairing hearing aids regardless of brand. Will any of the above be able to provide this service?

Polo definitely died, and will be missed. However, the question is whether any of the other audiologists will be offering repairs for their clients' existing hearing aids or the ones he sells them. On another question above, I understand that the audiologist service offered in the San Antonio Hospital building complex is not associated with other groups in that general location. CHILLIN
Just had a comprehensive hearing test from the audiologist at quality care. Very intelligent, careful and gentle. He certainly has all the gizmos, including a sound proof booth. Cool. It was very informative but I have an appointment with their Labrinthologist (?) Dr Luis Garcia to sort it all out. Turns out my loss of balance may be an inner ear problem solved with sprays. Damn bass guitar and grinding tools.
gringal
Who is the audiologist at Quality Care? Part of their group or independent? Does he do hearing aid repairs?
CHILLIN
You know I forgot to get his card. I believe his name is Hugo. These clinics are all the same. The cardiologists attract the patients, the specialists are chosen by the cardiologist and then charge a per patient fee to the specialist. He said they represented six different brands of hearing aids. He started to list them, they were all well known brands. If he doesnt fix them, he might send out to the manufacturers and give you a loaner. He has a ton of tools. I only have a problem with very high pressure in my left ear. Lexy
I went to see Dr. Carlos Flores, the audiologist recommended by the Burtons (in an above posting). He is a great replacement for Polo. He speaks perfect English, is low-key and pleasant, very thorough, discussed options to treat my hearing problems. I had the most thorough hearing test ever, the results of which he went over in detail. Later he emailed the test charts to me for my records. I don't know if he does repairs, as some of you asked about. I recall that Polo did some repairs himself, but not always. I recall he offered a loner if a repair had to be sent out. I'm sure Dr. Flores would answer that question in a phone call. He comes Tuesdays and Thursday to Chapala Med at Plaza Interlago, Ajijic. 376 766 5128.
