ER Service... Hospital Ajijic, SAT Hospital or Riberas Hospital

Recommended Posts

8 months in Lakeside and have never needed (or visited a Doctor). I may have a need to visit a local ER to assist with a burst hemroid issue if I can't get control of it and I will be Self-Paying since my Medigap won't cover me here after 60 days away from the States.

Of course I know SAT Hospital but the google reviews are all over the place? Riberas Hospital is new but don't show enough reviews for a sample to accurate; and Hospital Ajijic has a good reputation and reviews but don't hear about it often?

Besides having a Doctor who could have referred me (yep, I probably messed up by not establishing a relationship sooner) suggestions and opinions appreciated. Embarrassed but TIA. ⚕️ 😷

For a good General Practitioner in the Ajijic area, I recommend Dr. Jessica Flores.  She is bilingual.  Both my husband and I have been with her for years, and her referrals to specialists, when needed, have been very good.  Her cel is 331-050-4287

If emergency room help is needed, the Hospital San Antonio would be my choice.  The doctor on duty there when I had a recent break problem did a good job for me.

Go to Ajijic Hospital (Ajijic Clinic) just west of Farmacia Guadalajara. Competent to handle  your (and much worse) issues, has been here for a very long time, and will not cost you the bundle either of the other two will.

The SAT hospital charges are VERY reasonable and the ER staff are quite competent . I speak from experience of several occasions using the facilities paying with cash and or Intercam debit card. It's a REAL hospital which Ajijic clinic is not. Been there too.

We have used them for many different types of medical issues as well as emergencies for 14 years.  We prefer the father as our doctor rather than the son.  Dr. Alfredo Rodriguez Quintan is normally there Monday, Wednesday and Friday's.  You can call them for further information.  (376) 766 – 0662 and (376) 766 – 0500.

Since San Antonio Hospital opened I have several friends who had treatment there, they were satisfied with the treatment they received but not with the price. The same tests and treatment would have been much cheaper in Guadalajara..

Not my experience. Have had same tests in Guadalajara as in SAT and the TOTAL expense is less because I don't have to hire a cab to go to the city stay with me and take me back. In any event my basic costs at SAT  were comparable in essence making them cheaper. Twice,I went there late night with Cruz Roja ambulance and was there in 5 minutes after they only took 5 minutes to get to me.

You might need a gastrologist to remove it and any others you may have and finish with the problem. If it is a polip and not a hemroid then any surgeon might do.

Avoid the Ajijic Clinic except for the most routine care

Yeah the Ajijic Clinic had me until I started running my lab tests to my US doc:

They had run lab tests, diagnosed me with Salmonella, only for my US Doc (Worked with NIA research) to later explain:

"Well it's too bad you started those antibiotics, for you didn't have an active case of Salmonella.   The labs simply indicate at one point in your life you had it.    Then he went onto explain:  "If you did have an active case, that antibiotic and line of treatment would not help you with it.  That drug is incorrectly prescribed if treating Salmonella."

I thought one mishap, and at a later date, without any blood workup whatsoever...   They said I had Salmonella again, said it was Salmonella season (lol).  I said how do you know that without test results?  The response was "I am doctor".

Hmmmm  Try running those labs you get for such diagnosis, through a US doctor.  You may be surprised.

From what I have read the new Riberas Hospital is mainly for elective surgery. It is more of a boutique hospital for procedures like face lifts.

Our limited experience with SAT has been very satisfactory. Reasonable prices and competent staff.

My husband and I each had medical emergencies this month.  Mine involved my heart.  I went to San Antonio hospital. Same type of service as I would have received in the USA.  No cardiologist on duty.  No problem, he drove down from Guadalajara and monitored my case as he came. Insurance covered costs. I have a new cardiologist and am on a treatment program and was satisfied with my treatment.  My husband had an emergency that required surgery. The neurosurgeon did a wonderful job.  His treatment in intensive care was good. He's home now healing.

For me the ride in the Cruz Roja ambulance is the danger, a few months back the driver of the ambulance I was in must have been in training  for the Baja Rally.  My whole body left the  stretcher 3/4 times before getting to the hospital I  Guadalajara . It was my intention  to mention it to Joljy? ,but did not get around to it. Incidentally this was not an emergency  but transportation between  hospitals.

I had some good treatment at the Ajijic hospital but I left them as he suddenly had 2 or 3 different diagnosis for me every week. I then went to Dra. Teresa in Joco and she said most of it was not true and I think she was right. The SAT hospital is a great addition to the community.
