catbird
Looking for advice on where to go for a vacation on the beach. Hotels?
gogirl
My advice is not to go for the Easter holiday.
Ferret
Or for at least two to three weeks after the Easter holiday. It takes that long for the locals to get the beaches clean again.
Mainecoons
We are at the beach now in a place called Playa Grande Condos just outside of Cihuatlan, Jalisco. No noise, no trash, no crowds, just perfect conditions every day. We've been coming here for years. Costs under a thousand to rent a 2BR condo for a week. Check out goplaygrande.com for more information. This is a serious get away from it all vacation spot. We have to go this week because that is when our Oaxaca college students are out for spring break.

Mainecoons
Yes we drove. No, not all inclusive. We don't like those places much. We go for no crowds, no noise and very tranquil for our beach visits.
pappysmarket
Agree about all inclusives. Way too many folks worried about "Getting their money's worth". Stampedes at the restaurants and the bars, no thanks. Towels placed on pool chairs at 6 AM for an afternoon visit and intoxicated people everywhere since it's "included" and already paid for.
happyjillin
Are there oyster vendors on the beach and if so can you have your drinks served there?
mkshawn
Head to Manzanillo, Bay of Santiago, Playa La Boquita

None of the above. We were out on the beach this morning. Maybe 4 other people as far as one could see in either direction. There is one condo here, period, the one we are staying in. 63 units. Otherwise a few obviously pricey houses and a lot of open beach front. \ Restaurants in Barra de Navidad, 30 minutes north or at Hotel Isla Navidad, 15 minutes, fancy and pricey. As I wrote, this is a serious get away from it all and almost everyone beach vacation.
homer453
How about Manzanillo? Four hours away. Casa Artista was where we stayed last week. Up on a hill, great view of the ocean.

gringal
The questions I have are: (1)Are there any places serving food in the vicinity of the condos? (2) Are there any one bedroom units?) Other than that, It sounds great.
Mainecoons
No one bedroom units. Supposedly there is one restaurant a couple minutes up the beach, we are going to check it out today. Otherwise you go to Melaque/Barra, 20 minutes. This place is in the boonies I am not exaggerating.
gringal
"In the boonies" sounds like a fine place for family getaways...for more than two people.
happyjillin
Last year I did extensive research on Mexican friendly small hotels in Michoacan south of Manzanillo and within about a 5 hr. drive because we were going to cab it. I have an extensive file.

Not a lot of families at Playa Grande. They seem to prefer the busier places in that area. Also these condos aren't really big enough for large families, most are 2BR. To answer your question about restaurants, there are restaurants in Colimilla and they were open this weekend. 15 minutes. Also the Gran Hotel Isla Navidad, several restaurants, elegant but not cheap. Also 15 minutes. 20 minutes to Barra de Navidad, lots of restaurants. In my experience, the average Mexican doesn't have the same concept of adequate personal space or privacy that Americans or Canadians do. The more the merrier. A friend of mine found that his vacation rental home, that sleeps 6, and was booked for 6, had 17 people staying in it. They'll sleep 5 to a bed or just in a bedroll on the floor.
