Our northern  cousin have been smug for many months

Canada is FAR from perfect.....or even from good....on Covid response, the largest provinces in particular have given priority to business over health at virtually every opportunity.      But to go any further about it would get "political" and Lord knows we don't want to go there!    😉

Our northern  cousin have been smug for many months about the "mess" that is happening in the USA..now its time to sit back  and see how they unravel  this "mess"

We'll stay smug thank you. Facts don't lie and I'm happy that Canada is dealing with this "mess".

Facts you say? https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Canadian deaths 20,024. U.S. Deaths 452,214

the population of Canada is almost10times less than thatof the US so although Canada is foing way better than the US comparing the toalnumber of death is misleading.. Canada is not doing as well as frince on vaccinating people and France is not great shake either.. I think they are few countries who can brag about their handling of covid.. We areall in a jam....and we can all learn from each other and help each other out to get out of that mess.

That is only because virtually all countries other than US, UK, and Israel have been severely shorted so far on vaccines actually received, FYI.     The USA has received over 4x PER CAPITA than Canada  (40 mm vs 1mm).      So Canada has run out of jabs to give, while the USA can't currently administer, all that are in their possession.

France is out of vaccine as well... it is a mess for many all over the world.

I do not thnk it does a lot of good to criticize other countries as except for a few countries every ones has had screw ups and screwballs like in the US, Mexico and England and no doubt many others.. ,

I do not see the Canadians as smug , they still did a lot better than the US at controlling the virus. sso that remark was unwarranted.

I see the Canadians trying to get a handle and they are to be praised for it..It may or may not be the right approach but we all will learn from their plan.

Canada's population is approx. 37.6 million so using Ferret's numbers of 20,024 deaths from Covid can be stated as appr. a 0.054% death rate.  While in the U.S. where the population is approx. 328.2 million the 452,214 deaths can be stated as appr. a 0.14% death rate.  (Decimal previously lost but fortunately found by Bisbee Gal....Thank you!)

Canada obviously spends more wisely on health care with a per capita annual cost of approx. $7,068.00CDN

U.S. obviously spends more foolishly on health care with a per capita annual cost of approx. $11,582.00USD (that's $14,825.00CDN by the way).

There is only one reason for the U.S. being in the situation that they are in.  At federal level there was really no co-ordinated concern about certain segments of the population who were most vulnerable and thereby, at risk from the rapidly approaching Covid epidemic!   They were collectively considered a burden/drain on the economy and with their departure the country could be GREAT AGAIN!  Wow!

You understand so little about the relationships between and among the various governments in the US and their powers. It would benefit you, if you desire to post accurate information, to study the US Constitution. I doubt you care whether your opinion is valid or not. You just enjoy ROATM. Just MHO.

Canada has also announced that negative Covid test results will soon be required at all LAND borders.  Story here,

 https://globalnews.ca/news/7629517/covid-travel-restrictions-land-borders/

Beginning next week, anyone arriving in Canada at one of its many land borders will need to show a recent negative COVID-19 test.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday that anyone who shows up at a land border with the U.S. will be required to have taken a COVID-19 test 72 hours before seeking entry.

The new measures will kick in on Feb. 15. However, lack of a negative test won’t necessarily prevent people from entering the country.

Should Canadians or permanent residents not be able to provide that test result, they could face “severe penalties,” including fines of up to $3,000 per person. Trudeau said his government will also be implementing new measures to ensure “extensive follow up by Health Canada” to ensure they are getting tested and properly quarantining.

“It’s not legal to refuse entry to a Canadian who wants to come home. That’s the major difference between land borders and air borders. You can prevent someone from boarding a flight in Miami or elsewhere, you can’t prevent someone standing at a land border crossing from coming into Canada, because technically they’re already on Canadian soil,” he told reporters from Ottawa.

“These will be more measures we’re putting forward, but as of next Monday, people who show up at a Canadian land border on nonessential travel — like returning snowbirds — will be required to show a negative COVID-19 test.”
