Customs/Duty Tax on new iMac computer

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the percentage of duty/customs tax would be on a new iMac computer being brought into Mexico from the U.S.?

A couple of years ago I brought back a desktop computer by car. I stopped in the items to declare lane in Nuevo Laredo and presented the receipt to customs. I ended up paying no duty because he said the cost was less than the total allowance for both of us in the car. I didn't stick around to question the amount of the allowance having got the green light to go. It's also possible the customs agent didn't want to fool with it on that day. I don't have the original receipt I used but I think it was over $600.

I am typing this on an iMac purchased from Hall Microcomputers, in Guadalajara, and delivered and set up in Chapala.  It was no more expensive than in the USA, but was imported by Hall, an Apple distributor.  Great service!  So, if you have not bought it yet, wait until you get settled. You will then have a warranty valid in Mexico.
