artsnob
Do any of the clinics or hospitals have the flu shot available, and cost...
WideSky
Flu shots won't be available until October at the earliest. Check under the LCS page on this board for announcements. Some dtrs are taking deposits for the shot.
addtocart
Seems like if you have been doing everything you can to avoid COVID, you wouldn't catch the flu. 2 1 1

johanson
But up North, they are begging us to get our flu shots early this year, because the fewer persons hospitalized by the flu, leaves more beds available for the Covid 19 Virus. So I got my flu shot on August 22nd, which a little earlier than ideal but they were offering them for free up North. Yet my retired GP told me a few minutes ago on the phone from his retirement home, that he would always recommend (when he was in practice) that his patients get the flu shot in October or November. The Bartell Drug Store was also giving out the Pheumovax 23 shot as well which I was told was a buster or something to a shot I got there several years earlier
pappysmarket
Our GP is also saying October. He says for many people the protection is much lower after about 4 months and he says you really want the protection Dec.-Feb. and it takes a month for peak immunity. Pick your doc and they probably all have a different story. Sounds reasonable to us so we'll be getting it next month. YMMV
#HarryB
Don't misunderstand . I am working on getting the senior flu shot here and I have been given promises about the first or second week of October? Viva Mexico!

CHILLIN
Senior flu shot is also called double dose or there is another type of double dose. This is the recommendation in Ontario, and I assume the rest of Canada, for those rare birds ovee the age of 65. I have got some enquiries in Guadalajara. Should know next week. In Mexico, I don't think they have yet targetted the strains the want to immunize from.
donenrique
Was told by my GP last week that flu shots would be available in November and that there will be limited availability. I told him I had read October availability on social media and he said that's not what he was told by his associates in Guadalajara. Perhaps they are being overly cautious and will be wrong, but if you have a GP it would be worthwhile contacting them to see if they will be offering shots and if you can get put on a list to ensure that you get one.

I have been getting yearly flu vaccinations in Mexico since 2005 at their IMMS, Seguro Popular and ISSSTE and it was available on the first week of Nov. and once in a while on the second week. Your GP is probably going to be correct unless something has changed this year because of Covid-19 or the new government screws up.
CHILLIN
So what are our feelings about the double dose or adjuvated dose? My doctor says not available, get the regular dose anyways. And more quarantine. Ugh.
Natasha
In all my years of getting flu shots here I've never heard of any difference..... seniors, babies, or just plain everyday folks. Maybe they don't have adjuvated here? They certainly have never offered something different to me as a person of the "3rd age". So I'll be getting the regular one as soon as it's here. One online paper said medical personnel, seniors, and babies will be first to be eligible as supplies arrive.
ajijicbound
This notice was from lcs. I also read in one newspaper, that the shot will come out around mid october. Wednesday September 23,that there are 2 types of flu shots, a 3 strain and a 4 strain. The 3 strain is for government hospitals and IMSS etc. and is the shot soon to be made available. The 4 strain is the shot that LCS has given in the past and is individually packaged. It is in Mexico but is going through Cofepris before it can be relased, hopefully around the 3rd week of October. This is the vaccine used for the private sector. This is the shot LCS will use for the health day(s) in 2020. People need to know there is a difference in flu shots, the 3 strain being less preventative then the 4 strain. It is a person's decision as to which they prefer to get. LCS will schedule the health days as soon as the 4 strain is released and made available.
johanson
I have since I got 65 or 75, I don't remember, I have been receiving a Flu shot called "Influenza, high dose" at my local Bartell Drugs Store while up in Seattle for my fall visit. I always understood that to mean that because I am old, I get a stronger dose. To double check I phoned my now retired family physician about what the "high dose" on my records meant. He said that he didn't know, because there was no such thing for senior citizens when he retired maybe some 15 to 20 years ago
mattoleriver
TIJUANA, Mexico – At the Viva Tijuana Plaza, 100 meters from the U.S. border, Americans buy everything from steroids to Viagra, mostly without a prescription. But even in this pharmaceutical mecca, it’s nearly impossible to get a simple flu shot.
rafterbr
If you take a flu shot to early, you will probably need a second one in January or February. Dr's have always told me the last of October, early November is optimum time to get the shot. Sometimes there is an early flu season and one should move up the date. johanson
When I mentioned to my Doc up here in Seattle that I got my flu shot on 8/22/2020, he commented that I should not have taken it so early. I think he said he wished I had waited until late Oct or November. At that time he did not talk about what I should or shouldn't do as a result of my poor choice of taking the injection too early. Looking for it before that date is a fool's errand. jrod
Last week the federal government announced that the first round of flu shots, out Oct 1, is for children 6 mo-5 years. Seniors, pregnant women, and people at risk are eligible October 15. Some healthcare providers here already are taking a wait list. In the US, two dosages (different manufacturers) are available: the standard shot and the more potent shot for adults 65 and older. Depending on the flu season and whee in the US the flu typically peaks factors into availability. Texas, for example, has been available since the first of September; our GP there recommends it early as it takes several weeks for the vaccine to fully protect you. There is also a pharmacy specialising in hard to get prescriptions, not opoids though, I would guess. Lety at Quality Care has a wait list for inoculations. They should be in their new offices near SAT hospital by then.
