Maeflower
Just a quick question. A few years ago our then property managers arranged for our Saltillo tiles to be refinished and sealed. I can’t remember the problem other than we were told they need to be resealed periodically and we wanted more of a sheen. Well, work was done by someone who clearly didn’t know what they were doing and now they are peeling and look awful. I seem to remember someone warning against a particular product when sealing Saltillo (after our mess, of course☹️), and now I need to be sure that doesn’t happen again. Does anyone know what NOT to use? The name of the product that should be used would be helpful as well. Gracias!
Go Solar
Check this link, https://www.ehow.com/way_5385522_linseed-oil-saltillo-tile-maintenance.html Also recall that the initial treatment is with BOILED linseed oil....some have used just linseed oil....that can be an issue. Sounds like these may need to be stripped down and start over. Suerte.
artsnob
You need to use a floor brush machine to get old finish off, as new won’t go over the top of old,, I got some floor poly sealer from Home Depot in Mexico for my casa there and after four years it still looks new
Maeflower
Yes, my floors will absolutely need to be stripped and restarted. Artsnob, do you remember the name of your sealer?
liquipure
And is there someone in town who can do this? Have the correct machine? We used to use a fellow named Juan. His son Juan Jose if I recall worked with him.

happyjillin
I really don't know why all this necessity for all sorts of machine and chemical maintenance on a natural clay tile which we have inside and outside of a house that we have been in for 14 years and these tiles are at minimum 10-15 years older than that. Our maid mops them twice/week.
Maeflower
I agree but now our tiles are such a mess and need to be redone. We will be very careful in the future and we really love the Saltillo tiles😎.
Willie
Just remember that if they used an oil based product the first time, you cannot use an acrylic product on top of that.
artsnob
The poly sealer I used is acrylic and water based, they make a product undercoat you put on to make the top coat work better...

Do you have any spare ones that I could possibly purchase?

Saltillo tiles are super common in Mexican homes and are easy to find for purchase.

I used Sellacril after being told it was the best thing ever and it didn't last a week before starting to peel in sheets. I would stay away from anything acrylic based on those tiles. That Sellacril garbage peels off even when there hasn't been anything else used on them.
