Curmudgeon
I'm considering giving a car to my gardener. What paperwork has to be done (by me) to ensure that it's done properly? TIA
Mainecoons
If it is a Mexican plated car, just sign the Factura over to him.

Yes, it has Jalisco plates. Then he has to register it? Am I liable until he does that?
ea93105
Better to make sure he transfers ownership to his name at the registration office in Chapala, go with him if not inconvenient 2

If not you will will be legally liable until that takes place.

They have a list of values. SunFan
Curmudgeon
Thanks for the responses. That was exactly what I needed to know. I've been here 18 years but never done this before!
Curmudgeon
Are the taxes payable IVA on fair market value? I'm not sure he has any money.....
RVGRINGO
Yes. As such, you may have to foot that bill in order to make the "gift".
TelsZ4
Also it has to have a new sticker ..doesn’t matter if it has a current one, you still have to get a new one..
SunFan
Taxes are not as high as the IVA. They are on a sliding scale with a max of I believe 7%. SunFan
Mainecoons
Also they will check and make sure there are no outstanding traffic tickets like those sneaky photo radar ones.
bdlngton
I believe if you imported and nationalized the car you will need the pedimento to sell it.
