Industry sources have argued the factory is an export-only plant that operates under special rules that allow it to import raw materials and parts duty-free, on the condition they be re-exported and not sold on the local market.

This company is one of many international companies with manufacturing plants in Mexico being screwed over by AMLO's disregard for laws and  treaties. He is bringing upon Mexico a reversal of sound economic policies that were in place before he took office that had Mexico's economy growing.

Ventilators are needed in the US and he now forbids them from being manufactured in Tijuana out of sheer ignorance and stupidty.

Alan is correct. Those ventilators belong to another country, and they were/are  made under contract and treaty conditions. Mexico will pay a huge price( on top of the one it is already going to pay for his lack of leadership in this crisis) if he steals them or prevents them from being made.

My guess is by the time Mexico needs them there will be plenty available. Daily the governor of New York cried how they needed 30 or 40 thousand now!  But they never ran out and actually received under 10,000. Many were not used.

As normal with AMLO and the Moreno party everything is unplanned and executed poorly. Remember gas? Remember health system? Unfortunatly we have 4 more years.

AMLO is what the Mexican people wanted, and they got what they wanted. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not.

They are on Mexican soil and if they cannotsell Mexico  machines that are needed.. kick them out. In time like now people need to help each other.. Good for AMLO to turn on the pressure.

Technically they are in free trade zones which are on Mexican soil. This type of zone in Mexico dates from the mid 60's. Mexico can buy the products assembled in those zones the same as any one else after the end product is returned to the USA.

Well not exactly true.. He received just over one third of the votes. Problem was there were 3 serious candidates. He is proof that if you promise enough free stuff you can get votes.

Edited by mod to remove totally gratuitous and off topic political B.S.

Well, not exactlu true. :D

Counting the ballots in Sunday’s presidential election is complete, the National Electoral Institute (INE) said yesterday and confirmed that the Together We Will Make History coalition’s Andrés Manuel López Obrador was the winner.

The electoral authority said just over 30 million Mexicans voted for López Obrador, representing 53.1% of the total votes cast.

It is the highest vote count of any president in Mexico’s history.

I stand corrected. Yes Mexico deserves it.  So sad. I watch his press conferences and am amazed.

From the source:

Industry sources have argued the factory is an export-only plant that operates under special rules that allow it to import raw materials and parts duty-free, on the condition they be re-exported and not sold on the local market.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the company is owned by U.K.-based Smiths Group plc.

Note it is a U.K. owned company.  Not U.S.

There are a lot of behind-the-scene possible deals flying around.  Some of the OPEC stuff could be impacting the medical (ventilator) stuff.  Hopefully the end result works out for everyone.

---  Saudis and Putin in a pizzing contest over oil production

---  OPEC wants all countries to reduce production and told MEX to reduce its production by 400,000 barrels a day

---  Mexico says it can't afford that big a cut in production

---  US oil industry is reeling from drop in oil prices at this time

---  Mexico peso is reeling from drop in oil prices at this

----  US tells Mexico if it cuts production by only 100,000 a day, that the US will offset with more US reductions (and Mexico can 'pay back' later)

----  Mexico has agreed to the US offer in principal

---- OPEC has yet to say whether they will approve that unusual offer between US and Mexico

----  Mexico asked US to sell (not give) 10,000 ventilators (and monitors) in same phone call where the OPEC "offset" was discussed

Vamos a ver!

Wonder if it will last?  Mexico was willing to PAY for them, not a donation to the country.

Interesting article on results of using or not using ventilators.........., as doctors see and experience more patients they are begin to see an over use can be dangerous as the process is very invasive . A fast moving situation  and "facts" are changing daily/weekly...so please do not not be too critical when you hear the Medical Expert on your local news tell you something you may think crazy! .......Sadly there is not sufficient resources in the world to chase all the "alleged" cures..sometime just throwing  a dart and following that "cure" could be the bulls eye...Stay home ...Stay well
