mudgirl
Two people in Nigeria just dies from taking chloroquine in the belief that it would protect them from COVID19 and more people in other places are being hospitalized for the same thing. You'd have to be mentally deficient to self-medicate on the basis of what the POTUS says, wich right away was proven as false. It has not been approved by the FDA.
777
Yes, this drug can be dangerous if too much is taken. That is why there is a delay of its use in USA. Scientists are working in determining correct dosage.
luvsdawgs
It is being used at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC among others. The DoctorsĀ are concerned that they are running out. It is an FDA approved drug just not for the virus, Yet.Ā The medical profession is OK to use this even though not approved. I saw this on a news broadcast with the big guy from LH. He also stated that it is being used all over the US already.Ā Time will tell, oh btw, it is only being given to the extremely sick at the moment. The POTUS is being guided by medical professionals and the treatment supplies are in the hands of same.Ā They are the ones evaluating the data from clinical trials and other success stories that most definitely have not been proven false.Ā If some people decide to self medicate based on no or insufficient medication no one has advised them to do so, least of all the POTUS who is just trying to infuse some hope and optimism into a very grim situation.Ā You'd have to be mentally deficient to self medicate for this thing, period. The drugs are both FDA approved for existing uses.Ā In view of promising results, FDA is very actively involved in widespread study and testing on an expedited basis. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/coronavirus-covid-19-update-fda-continues-facilitate-development-treatments This constant gratuitous bashing based on putting words in people's mouths and making up stuff is getting very old.Ā Please knock it off.Ā The last thing we need is fake news and political backbiting.Ā If existing drugs can save lives, that puts the world ahead of the game.Ā Obviously the scientific community agrees. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/who-launches-global-megatrial-four-most-promising-coronavirus-treatments The two drug combo that did so well in the peer reviewed French study are both well established and understood medications.Ā As others try it similar results are being reported.Ā The drugs either work or they don't and the results are known quickly, in a week or less. Hence it is not necessary to do the usual toxicity work but instead the focus is on determining dosage and duration and evaluating patient response, which seems to come very quickly.Ā If in fact these or other existing medications can prevent deaths that alone could make a huge difference in bringing both the disease and the panic under control.Ā Ā Ā 1 2

Ā Yes, in Nigeria, health authorities are warning against self-medicating, after two patients overdosed on the anti-malaria drug chloroquine, which has been falslyĀ has praised as a possible treatment for coronavirus. Tests are currently being carried out with anti-malarials in the U.S. and other countries, but theĀ FDAĀ and theĀ WHOĀ have not approved its use as a treatment forĀ COVID-19. Back in the U.S., lupus patients have reported shortages of the drug hydroxychloroquine ā which is used to treat both malaria and lupus ā following falseĀ recent statements. And following those statements, which conflicted what the facts really are (nothing confirmed/trials must be completed), Gupta was stunned by that info, for it conflicts with what Fauci is stating.Ā Ā False claims about possible treatments for the coronavirus, as expert Dr. Anthony Fauci attempted Ā to tamp down optimism about the treatments at a press conference, messes with so many peoples minds, and makes them buy up items that could be dangerous, in a panic. Mainecoons
No, not falsely praised.Ā Preliminary but there have been positive results.Ā Maybe too much enthusiasm too early.Ā Doctors have been given wide latitude to use these drugs.Ā This is not untypical when there is a paucity of specific and approved treatments in the face of a medical emergency.Ā And yes this is a medical emergency. https://www.livescience.com/chloroquine-coronavirus-treatment.html From three days ago.Ā We can expect a lot more to come on this topic. Here BTW isĀ the actual French study, translated. https://www.mediterranee-infection.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Hydroxychloroquine_final_DOI_IJAA.pdf It discusses work from the Chinese that achieved similar results. MexLuis
Man dies after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate to treat coronaviru A man died in Phoenix after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate to treat covid-19, Banner Health announced in a statement Monday. The manās wife, who also self-medicated with chloroquine phosphate, is in critical care, according to Banner Health. The man was in his 60s, as is his wife. Banner Health did not identify either of them by name. This came just two days after President Trump suggested, in a tweet, that a mix of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin could be an effective treatment for covid-19. Neither drug had been approved by the Food and Drug Administration or World Health Organization as a treatment for the coronavirus, and has not been in the time since. āGiven the uncertainty around COVID-19, we understand that people are trying to find new ways to prevent or treat this virus, but self-medicating is not the way to do so,ā Daniel Brooks, medical director of Banner Healthās Poison and Drug Information Center, said in the statement. āThe last thing that we want right now is to inundate our emergency departments with patients who believe they found a vague and risky solution that could potentially jeopardize their health.ā Banner Health urged that chloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, āshould not be ingested to treat or preventā the virus. On Saturday, after Trump endorsed hydroxychloroquine on Twitter, Nigeria reported two cases of chloroquine poisoning. That led Nigerian health officials to issue a warning against using the drug to treat the coronavirus, which was echoed by Banner Health after a related death.

kimanjome
Well, the man from Arizona who died ingested chloroquine which was supposed to go into his KOI POND, not his mouth. That would be like me ingesting a glass of chlorine bleach straight, instead of a droplet in a pint of drinking water.
